Hi I'm Joanna.

I'm a mother, sister, friend, and teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of four young children. I work as a high school science teacher. It has been a pleasure taking time out of my career to spend with my children. The time goes by quickly and memories are made. Even though our family is "big", we love to travel and learn together. Even though my days are filled as 'MOM', I love being there for all the firsts. This is the first time that I have stayed home from work for more than a year. I love to teach and teaching is a passion that I have. I know that even though I am taking a break from teaching high school, I love teaching about the gospel of Jesus Christ. During my free time, I like to read, write, paint, and learn or do something new.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 15 years old, my mother decided that I should learn about her church. I had attended many different churches since I was 4 years old. One day, my mother went to her visiting teacher's home. Sis. Thompson was elderly and it was easier to go to her place. Brother Wood, her home teacher was there and suggested that maybe I would be interested in young womens. I decided to attend Young Women activities and get to know the youth. After a couple of months, the missionaries came knocking on our door. My mom decided it was time for me to know about the gospel, so the missionaries started teaching my sister and me. After a few months of reading the Book of Mormon, attending church, praying, and asking the missionaries a million questions, I felt ready to be baptized. Of all the churches that I had attended, this was the one that had answers to all my questions. I knew that I wanted to be baptized. Three days before I was baptized, Sis. Thompson passed away due to cancer. She told my mother that her mission was to bring my mother back to church. I am ever grateful to this wonderful women who took time to care for my mother. It has now been 23 years since I've been baptized and I love this church. I know that it is true. My life has been blessed because of it.

How I live my faith

I am actively involved at church. Most recently, I was the president of the women's group, Relief Society, for our unit where we meet. I visited sisters in their homes regularly. I served families that needed help. I tried to teach the ladies how to be more Christlike in their attitudes and to serve each other. I think that is what i loved the most about this calling. I love to serve others. When i am helping others, i feel full inside. i feel fulfilled. i know that when i take time to help others, my family is blessed. I planned an activity to the sugar shack. most of the members in our small branch attended. it was nice to see everyone socialize in a casual setting. We have recently moved and so i don't currently have a calling. But i am blessed to have my friends from church help me as i try to unpack and organize a house filled with 4 children aged 1-9.
