Hi I'm Gavin Howard

I can beatbox. I create software and write two blogs. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a single, full-time college student. I love music, especially movie soundtracks (and I like movies, too!). I can beatbox, too. Although I am not amazing, I'm not bad either. I am a computer programmer. I have written Android apps, but right now I am focusing on writing software for other programmers. I love good stories (which is one reason why I like movies), so I like to read a good book every now and then. I also write. I've written an unpublished novel, and during my high school years, I was a regular monthly columnist for my hometown newspaper. However, I am not currently writing books. Instead, I write two separate blogs. One is for software development. I am the designer of a new programming language called LFyre, and this blog is the story of its development and design process. It's quite a long story now; I've been working on it for more than a year and a half. The other is a personal blog called See the Wonder (see the link above). I struggle with depression, and this blog is my attempt to fight that depression by actively looking for the "Wonder" in my life and in the world. The stories are always honest, and the experiences can be quite surprising sometimes. But most of all, it shows me as I really am.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because living the standards of the Church has proven to be the surest way to be happy. I enjoy Sunday services, Church activities, and many other things. More importantly, I know that the Church is true. I know that our Heavenly Father is a God of Miracles because I've seen so many of them. I've been around the block a few times in my short existence, and every experience I've had has only strengthened my knowledge. Through those experiences, I've learned three things: God is our Father, He loves us, and He wants us to come home. To me, if He wants us to come home, He has to tell us how to get there. And that means He has to send revelation from Heaven. I know that revelation does come; I've received some for myself. First and foremost was the witness, the sure witness through the Holy Spirit, that the Church is true, and that it is God's Church. You could take away all of my other experiences, including the ones that only strengthened my testimony, and I would still know, without any doubt, that the Church is true. I know it's true because He told me that it is.

How I live my faith

I am just a normal person; I don't do any special things in the Church, but I know what I know. Even though I like movies, music, and books, I don't watch PG-13 or R-rated movies because I don't want to see some of the things in those types of movies. I also do not read books that have the same material. And of course, I live life to the fullest. I think that if we walk into God's presence looking shiny and pristine, He will send us back because we didn't get why we were here on Earth. But if we slide into His presence worn out, with scratched knees and dirty face, saying, "Wow! What a ride!" and bubbling because of all the fun we had, He will chuckle and welcome us back, ready to listen to the stories we have to tell. Life is only as good as the stories we can share.

In whom should we have faith?

Gavin Howard
Have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Have faith and trust that His Atonement is infinite and eternal, and that it is also personal. As it has helped me, it can help you too. Trust in God. Trust that He will fulfill the promises that He has made to ancient and modern prophets. If you truly have faith, you won't just HAVE faith, you will ACT on that faith by attending church, praying, studying the Holy Scriptures, and living every other commandment that God has given us. How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Gavin Howard
We must return to God. If we are to put God first in our lives and our families' lives, then the curse of pornography can hardly enter into our homes and beset us with its poison. If my family and your family refuse to touch that evil gift, then those who surround us might take up our example and never touch it. The more of us that do that, the more that will decide that this enemy of our souls will have no place in our lives. I wish that I could say that there was an easy answer to pornography, that we could have our legislatures and Congress ban pornography altogether. Legislation can help, but we need to remember that the pornography industry is an industry that operates in secret and in the darkest places. It would be difficult to make it disappear completely, even with good legislation because there will always be those willing to seek it out. But we CAN refuse to allow it into OUR lives. Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Gavin Howard
The Book of Mormon was written by prophets in the Americas. God loves all of His children, so He loves those who lived here in the Americas as much as the Jews at Jerusalem. He called prophets to teach and testify of Jesus Christ among His children in the Americas, and those prophets wrote the Book of Mormon. The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Savior, Jesus Christ, to the inhabitants of America soon after His death, resurrection, and ascension. He taught them, blessed them, and showed them the Way they should follow. In this way, the Book of Mormon testifies that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. In fact, the full title of this book is The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon in no way diminishes the authenticity and divinity of the Bible. One testifies of the other, and they both testify of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World. Show more Show less
