Hi I'm Matt

I grew up half in California and half in Georgia. I'm a scientist studying cognition and behavior jumping spiders & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a graduate student in biology and live near the heart of the Midwest with my wife and dog. I very much enjoy the outdoors, especially rock climbing and hiking. While I'm not a huge fan of the cold winters out here, I have come to love the wonderful way the wind blows through the prairie tall grass in the late fall.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm LDS for two reasons. First and foremost were the continual efforts of my best friend who originally began teaching me about the restored gospel more than 15 years before I finally converted. Second, and equally important to me was the amazing response I received late one night when I finally humbled myself enough to ask Heavenly Father for the truth. I will never forget that experience nor the life altering love my friend showed me. They keep my testimony strong when it would otherwise falter dues to life's many trials.

How I live my faith

I am second counselor in the wards Elder's Quorum. What that basically means is that I am in charge of helping all of the male members in the ward 18 years of age and older with their individual responsibilities within the church. I am also in charge of the lessons that are taught in the Elders Quorum. My biggest responsibility though, is to my family. I try and take time every evening to pray with my wife as a family. I also strive to live my life worthy of the many blessings the priesthood has brought into my life. In this way I am able to help those in need of my priesthood whenever I am called upon to help, and have often used this power to help my wife with her struggles as a diabetic.
