Hi I'm Lowell

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and attended school there, graduating from the University of Utah

About Me

I am a grandfather with five children, a wonderful wife and 18 grandchildren. All but my youngest son live near by so that my wife and I can enjoy them often. We lived in one place after we were married for 42 years and then moved to a twin home to down size.. I love to fish, read, and play with grandchildren. I have worked as an engineer for 36 years and just last year went back to work for a year after being retired for 16 years. Last year on the day I quit work I had a heart attack, and so I am being more careful and getting in my daily walks. I served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in Minnesota. It was one of the great experiences of my life. I enjoy reading books with historical content such as biograpies or history based novels. I am of Swedish and German descent, and my wife is of English and Irish descent, so our children have a pretty good mix.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Mormon Church, but remain a Mormon by choice. Both grandparents on my mother's side and my father's side were converted to the church by missionaries, my father's family in New York State and my mother's family in Germany. The church has always been one of the most important aspects of my life. It has blessed my life and the life of my family. I have always taken an active part and have held positions of resposibility. Of course, the church is a lay church, so those who preside over local congregations, etc. are not paid, but give of their time and mans freely. Such a pattern of service has enriched my lofe in many ways. I know that the Gospel of Jesus christ is true, and that Christ established his church while on the earth. It subsequently went into apostasy and was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1830. I also know that the Book of Mormon and the Bible are the word of God. My knowledge of these things and my firm testimony of Jesus Christ as the Savior of the World keep me actively engaged in the church with a strong desire to share this knowledge with others that their lives might also be blessed. In short, I am a Mormon because I want to be one.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by keeping active in the church and following the counsel and teachings of its leaders, praying often, and reading the scriptures and trying to be a good example. A companion and II visit by assignment three families each month to ensure that they are not in need and we leave a short religious message and a prayer in the home. I have taught youth Sunday School classed and enjoy participating in the adult class each week where we study the various scriptures. I have also served as Scout Master. Both of my sons earned their EAgle award. I have led the congregational singing and directed the choir. My wife currently seves as organist for the main Sunday meeting, and I support her in that calling. Opportunities to serve in the Church are varied and come and go, but I have been taught that it isn't where one serves, but how one serves that is important.
