Hi I'm Jared

I work with teens every day. I love playing with my family. I am trying to be like Jesus--my Savior. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The coolest three titles I carry are disciple of Christ, husband and father. I am an educator by profession. Give me some free time and here is how I would use it with my family: ski, scuba dive, hike, bike, cook, eat, raft, play and eat (What can I say? I am very fond of food!) My wife and I cheered each other along through college. I studied Near Eastern Studies, Hebrew and Spanish in my undergraduate studies. My family helped me acquire a masters degree in Instructional Design. And now we are embarking on another adventure as I am looking at doctoral degrees.

Why I am a Mormon

90 feet below the ocean I am absolutely reliant upon my scuba gear to keep me (and my family) comfortable, safe and alive. Once I trust my equipment I am allowed to see views few people in the wold experience. In the near silent serenity of the sea beauty erupts in technicolor brilliance. Jesus Christ, unlike scuba gear, NEVER fails. I have found again and again that my reliance on the Son of God and adherence to His Gospel brings me comfort, peace, safety, stability and life. I can't tell you how comforting and joyful it is to base my life and my actions on eternal truths. It is simple: live Christ's Gospel = be happy. Don't live His Gospel = don't be happy. That doesn't mean life is easy, it just means I can still be happy and peaceful even in tough times. When Jesus was on the earth 2,000 years ago He taught what His Father instructed Him to teach. He organized His church and empowered others to help in His Father's work. That same Gospel, organization and power has been returned to the earth today. It is in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am so certain of this I rest all my confidence upon it. Scuba gear is life preserving below the sea. The truthfulness of Christ's Gospel here on the earth preserves eternally. And not just me but my wife and my children.

How I live my faith

I really, really believe the words of the Savior, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." The two great commandments: Love God with all my heart, mind, might and strength & love my neighbor as myself guide my thoughts and my actions. I love my God. I love His children. I smile at them. I help carry my sister's groceries to her car. I help my brother when he is out of gas on the side of the road. I invite them into my home to eat with my family. I give money to feed those whom I cannot feed because of distance. I visit my sick and sad brothers late at night and early in the morning. I spend hours each month with one, lonely, elderly brother of mine. I try to apply the Apostle James' maxim, "I will show thee my faith by my works".
