Hi I'm Gema Gutierrez

I'm a writer, I'm an artist, I'm a dreamer, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an Cinematography major. I love dreaming up and writing stories that I can later put into film. I am a proud aunt of 3 WONDERFUL little boys who are my life! It's a joy to watch them grow! I am a college student right now trying to achieve the ultimate dream of being a movie director. My life, like anyone else's has not entirely been sunshines and rainbows. I'm constantly dreaming of a better tomorrow for my life and there are times when that better tomorrow gets worse! I am no exception for trials, and I'm slowly learning to welcome them!

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 7 years old my dad, siblings and I were walking to the grocery store to buy popcorn. We found 2 young men riding bikes wearing suits (to this 7 year old, that was a crazy sight!). They asked to visit my family and little did we know their message would change our lives. I was young when I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I felt it was the right thing to do and I remember feeling excited! Years later I found myself a little unsure of what I had believed in. I was unsure of my testimony of the prophet Joseph Smith. I wanted so bad to know if he had indeed been called of God. I wanted to pray to ask but I didn't know how I would receive my answer, so I asked members of the church. "Oh, it's a WONDERFUL feeling! You'll feel it right away!" and "As soon as you're done praying you'll just know!" were a few of the answers I received. So there I was, on my knees ready to ask. I asked with SO much faith, and felt absolutely nothing. "Maybe I need to want it more." So I prayed again. And again, nothing. I was devastated! I tried time and time again and still no wonderful feeling, no sudden knowledge, nothing. It was a tough week for me, I remember. I was unsure that Heavenly Father was aware of me. The following Sunday I was in church, angry with my Heavenly Father for being the only one in the world (so it seemed) without an answer to her prayer. The missionaries were speaking that day and I wasn't paying much attention to the talks given. But there was a moment when an elder was silent. It was then that I looked at him. He looked straight into my eyes and said, pointing at me, "I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God." It was then that I had that wonderful feeling the members had talked about before. I could literally feel the warmth of my Heavenly Father's love for me! I have NEVER forgotten this experience! I'm a member of this church because this is where my Heavenly Father wants me to be.

How I live my faith

I have the GREAT joy of teaching youth in the church. There is a program for High School students called Early Morning Seminary. Everyday students meet at SIX in the MORNING to study the scriptures. It has been an amazing experience to see these young men and young women waking up to the Lord daily! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a church of Service. There is no greater joy than to serve others and in so doing, growing spiritually and growing closer to our Father in Heaven!
