Hi I'm Shawn

I was born and raised in Colorado. I am now an accountant working for the Federal Government, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of two boys. I graduated from college, and work as an accountant for the Federal Government. When I am not at work, I spend most of my time with my family. As my boys are young, and there are some mental health issues in my family, I find that I do not have time for all of the activities that I love; however, I find that the time spent dealing with this issue is very rewarding. I play the piano, and still love to find the time to "tickel the keys," whenever I have the time. I love most sports, and outdoor activities. I also enjoy camping with my boys.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was raised as a Latterday Saint (aka Mormon), I have found peace and tranquility through my beleifs in the gospel. It has helped to cope with difficult issues associated with those close to me who have a mental illness. I have learned through the years of the love that Heavenly Father really has for each one of us. I can feel his love and support through all of the various trials that I have had to face. My real conversion to the church came while I was still in High School. I determined that I had to read the Book of Mormon. While reading and pondering on the passages, it was confirmed to me that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints was the true church. Since then, I have served a Mission, had a family and other life events. The teachings of family, and the eternal nature of families also started to hit me at a young age. When I went off to college, I realized the importance of family for me. Since then, this has helped understand the larger picture of who we are and why we are here on earth. It is through my testimony that I am better able to cope with the everyday trails that we all face. I know that Jesus lives, and that he loves each of us very much. He supports us through trials that we are unable to handle ourselves, and while he streches us so that we grow closer to him, he is always there to support us.

How I live my faith

My primary role in the church at this time is as a father and a home teacher. As a father, I struggle with raising my children in the church. While this responsibility is wonderful, I find the importance of teaching my children the gospel to be a daily task. It is our example that is the biggest influance over our children, and I just hope that in some way I am a good role model for them. As a home teacher, I get to meet other families. Currently I only have one family; however, I find it so rewarding to discuss the gospel with others, and uplift them spiritually. Each month the message helps to drive a gospel message that is both uplifiting, and spiritually motivating. As I contemplate the greatness of the message, I am in awe at how much we can learn from serving others. The work is so uplifting that even my sons love going home teaching with me.
