Hi I'm S. Delia Shawgo

I'm a Mormon. I'm retired and serving a mission in the Employment Service of the church in the Pacific Northwest.

About Me

I was a single parent and raised two children while working as a medical transcriptionist. We joined the LDS Church in 1974 and both my children served missions, one in Canada and one in Florida. I have 12 grandchildren who are all precious to me. I love to make quilts, read and bicycle when I can. Presently I am serving a mission as an employment specialist back near my place of origin... the Pacific Northwest.

Why I am a Mormon

I read the Book of Mormon and knew that it was not an ordinary book. I sought out the missionaries through my local Mormon church and asked to learn more about the church and especially this special book. I joined the Church in January of 1974 when my children were 6 and 4 years of age. It has been the best decision I ever made. My brothers and sisters in the church helped me raised my son to become an Eagle scout and taught both my daughter and son the importance of eternal marriage in the temple of the Lord. Eventually my parents, brother and sister all became Mormons and we were able to become an eternal family. I am now serving a mission trying to give a little back to this church that has given us so much.

How I live my faith

I read the monthly magazine that comes from the church (the Ensign) and learn what the leaders are teaching us each month. I also love to study the scriptures and even though I have read the Book of Mormon several times, each time I find I have learned something more about my Savior and his love for us. I attend my meetings each Sunday to gain more knowledge and to grow in my calling. I am now working with the public as well as members of the church in my calling in an employment center. This work helps those who are looking to further their education or need help to become self-reliant through employment. It is a great work and I am privileged to be called to work in this area for a time.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

S. Delia Shawgo
No. Just as prophets of old like Abraham, Noah and Moses, are honored but not worshipped, we honor Joseph Smith. He is a modern day (or latter-day) prophet and we hold him in the same esteem as those prophets who have gone before, proclaiming the word of God and calling on all people to come unto Christ.
