Hi I'm Rod

We were a family with five sons, tragedy struck, my world turned upside down, now a blended family of 11, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right out of high school I joined the military, got married, had five sons and together we saw the world. We had so much fun and were a close knit family. Then 18 years later tragedy struck our family. I found myself alone with five sons to rise. We were devastated. Our world had been turned upside down. We felt lost as one important member of our family, Mom, was not longer there. I was deeply pained and mostly grieved for my sons as many a nights we slept in one room together. Our family and friends quickly came to our aid. We became an even closer family through the process of healing and placing our faith upon our Savior Jesus Christ. He was truly in charge of our lives, and so we pressed on. A few years later, the Lord placed in my path a wonderful woman. The Lord knew that I needed companionship and my boys needed a mother. I had been praying earnestly for a woman who would except me and my five sons and give us the much needed love that only a mother could give. The Lord truly hears and answers prayers. I met a wonderful woman and soon discovered we had much in common, as she too was alone with five children. After a short courtship we married and brought our two families together. Then 13 months later a baby blessed our family, now we have 11 children in all. All my children are gone now. I love my wife dearly and all of our children and 12 grandchildren. I am grateful to have had the gospel of Jesus Christ as a part of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

34 years ago I became a member of the Mormon Church, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (LDS). Having been raised in the Baptist Faith I was familiar with who Jesus Christ was. As I got older I wanted to know Him even more. So with that knowledge I was open to listen to others of different faiths. I remembered a Mormon friend I had. I admired him for the way he lived his life and for his commitment. He didn't just live his religious belief on Sunday's but everyday of his life. Because of that, I met with the Mormon missionaries. I began to learn that I had a Heavenly Father who knows and loves me. How He set in motion a great plan of happiness, thus allowing me the opportunity to return back to Him. He would provide a Savior, Jesus Christ, who would atone for my sins if I would just follow Him and keep His commandments. I learned of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, His church in our time as it did long ago. That He would provide Apostles and Prophets in the latter days to help guide us. I learned that there was another testament of Jesus Christ. It is a book called "The Book of Mormon", and a promise that if I were to sincerely pray about the truthfulness of this book, that I would gain a special witness of it's divinity by the Holy Ghost. So why am I a Mormon? Because the spirit bore witness to me that the Book of Mormon was true and that the things I was being taught were true. So I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because of my membership in His church I have seen His hand in every moment of my life and have felt His loving embrace.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be the best that I can everyday, as a husband, father and as one of His children. I want to please Him and be obedient to His commandments. My family and I read daily from the scriptures so that we can better know and understand His will. We gather as a family both morning and night in family prayer. Because we have done these simple things, daily scripture reading and family prayer, my family and I have been greatly blessed in so many ways. We attend church each Sunday and service where ever we can. The Lord has promised His spirit to always be with and guide those who follow and keep his commandments. I testify to you that He loves you and I, and all of His children, and that His church is upon the Earth today, and that His church is lead by a living Prophet and Apostles, Jesus Christ Himself being the head of His Church.
