Hi I'm Darren

I'm a US Air Force Academy Cadet and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

When I was about 17 yrs old I decided that I wanted to go to the United States Air Force Academy. My plan was to be accepted, attend school for one year, serve a mission, then resume schooling upon my return. Things did not turn out the way that I expected, but they definitely turned out for the better. Acceptance to the Air Force Academy is not easy. You are evaluated on your performance in school and on the ACT/SAT, athleticism, leadership skills, interviews, and involvement in the community. After developing a strong profile through my four years of high school, I began the process of application. I received a letter a few months after applying which said that I had not made the cuts. It was a sad day, but rather than being discouraged, my desire to be accepted was intensified. I attended a nearby university for one semester as I was waiting for my report date to the Missionary Training Center. During this time I retook the ACT and got involved with the AFROTC program. The next two years I spent reaping the rewards of serving my brothers and sisters in the Philippines. A friend of mine said that a mission is "the best years FOR you life, not OF your life." It was a very challenging two years, but with those two years of challenge and adversity came two years of rapid growth and experience. Because I am running out of space to write :), I will simply say that it is nothing short of a miracle that I am here at the US Air Force Academy today.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized in the church when I was 8 yrs old. At that time, I felt the church was true and that baptism in this church was the right thing to do. In my youth, I doubted a little bit in my faith. I said, "why is it like this or like that in the church?" Really, my faith was tested at that time. Even though that was my state, I continued to read the Book of Mormon and, little-by-little, my doubts went away. The Holy Spirit is strong when I read the scriptures. My faith was strengthened after that trial and I believe that this is the true church of Jesus Christ. I also believe that the Book of Mormon is Word of God and all the promises and prophecies it contains will be fulfilled. I believe that Joseph Smith is a true prophet. I cannot deny these things.

How I live my faith

I am trying to follow the example of Jesus Christ and his teaching. I am preaching the teachings -gospel- of Jesus Christ now in the Philippines. Daily I am inviting people to come unto Jesus Christ through strengthening their Faith in Him, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End
