Hi I'm Randy

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City. Like my father, I began my career as a real estate appraiser. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married to my soul mate for 36 years We have five (5) children. While I'm not an outdoorsman, I do like to go fishing. However, mostly I'm a foodie. I love to cook; to try different recipes; to research the orgins of dishes and their ingredients; and most of all, to eat. While I cook almost everything, my favorite style of cooking is barbeque. I come from a pretty normal family and enjoyed my childhood. I have three (3) brothers; the oldest of who has passed away. Mom was a homemaker. Dad was a real estate appaiser. I started out my career in his footsteps; working independently, for government and for banks. I recently retired from the real estate department of the Postal Service, where I was a real estate specialist for thirty (30) years. I am now planning the next stage of my career.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a "cultural" Mormon, meaning my parents were both members of the Church, as were most of my friends and family. I took the Church for granted. There was no need for me to "convert"...at least that is what I thought, until I moved away from my home of 28 years and started a job in another part of the country. In my old home, I could lean of the Church members for guidance and support. In my new home, the ward and Church members needed to lean on ME for support and guidance. This was a whole new perspective for me. As a result, I needed to find out for myself if all that i was taught was true. There was no more taking the Gospel for granted. As a result, I prayed. Not your normal everyday prayers, but real sincere prayers form the heart. In addition, I studied the scriptures more closly than ever before. As I drew closer to my Heavenly Father, He answered my prayers. Through the Holy Ghost, He bore witness to me of his divinity and the truthfulness of the Gospel as restored by Joseph Smith. That's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as the secretary for one of our priesthood leaders. This affords me the opportunity to help serve all of the members of our congregation. In addition to serving the congregation in general, I also have several families assigned to me that I meet with monthly to share experiences and discuss the gospel of Jesus Christ. These opportunities to serve are humbling and help to contiually solidify my faith and testimony of our Savior. Our congregation also holds a number of social activities that I have had the privilege of helping organize and carry out. These include picnics an the 4th of July and back-to-school barbecues. In addition to social activities, our congregation sponsors public service projects, including blood drives. I am grateful for these opportunities to serve and to help others do the same.
