Hi I'm Dena

I'm a 3rd generation Arizonan. I'm a mom, a Grammy, a student, and most importantly, I am a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I have raised 4 children together. Now, I have returned to school to finish my education and hope to become a teacher (when I grow up!) Being grandparents is the best part of life right now. I love music, reading, trying new recipes, and recording the history of our family - every day moments. I am also a Cancer Survivor - an experience that has changed my life. I know that I am a walking miracle and try each day to be the best I can be. Each day is a gift!

Why I am a Mormon

I was taught to have faith from my earliest childhood memories. My parents are great examples of building that faith on the rock of our Savior, Jesus Christ. During those wonderful, struggling teenage years, I wanted to build my own foundation and did so thru prayer, studying the scriptures, and trying to live so that I could always feel close to my Heavenly Father. I married in the temple. However, because of the agency of others, I went thru a rough marriage that ended in divorce. I had two little boys at the time. I wondered if my Heavenly Father was still by my side and thru diligent prayer found to my amazement that He was not only by my side, but helped to carry me thru some of the hardest times of my life. Because I had a foundation that didn't crumble, I was able to feel loved and important to my Heavenly Father. I knew that I was indeed His daughter! I met my current sweetheart/husband and we continued to build our family. About 6 years ago, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and given a 20% chance to beat this disease. I endured chemo and radiation with great pain and discomfort. During this time, I had many moments to "talk" to my Heavenly Father. I didn't question His love.... I questioned my faith and if I could endure with patience. Again, His love was felt beyond anything that I could describe. When I thought my body could take no more - I found strength and fought a little harder. Now...looking back, I can't believe I was able to endure what I did. I know without a doubt that I had His help. With the enabling power of the Atonement, I was strengthened and supported. I cannot doubt what I have felt. I cannot imagine my life without the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the center of it.

How I live my faith

Right now, I am the Primary President of our ward. The Primary consists of children ranging in ages from 3-11 and also includes a Nursery with ages 18 mos. to 2 yrs. Our ward has about 124 children in this age range. What a great calling! There is no greater faith than from the little ones that surround our lives. I have a strong testimony of the love our Savior had for the little children --their faith, their willingness to believe, and their natural desire to help those around them. Our ward has the most amazing children. They are smart, they have testimonies at young ages, and they want to learn. It is quite the responsibility to bear testimony of the love of our Savior to those who already feel that in their daily lives. I also have the opportunity to share my beliefs with my class mates at the Community College. They always say... "I knew you were Mormon! I could just tell!". I take that as a compliment as I strive to be kind to everyone, no matter where they are in their life or what type of life-style they portray. I don't broadcast my religious beliefs blatantly, but it seems I am given many opportunites to share why I am a Mormon. I'm learning how to do so more eloquently with each occasion. Mostly, I try to share with them how important the family is and why the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is such a blessing. It adds so much to the family. All those important relationships are unified eternally. I cannot imagine what life would be like without my family close and around me. Through the restored gospel, my family can be together forever....something that helps me to live better each day!!
