Hi I'm Christi

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, and a mother of a 24 year old daughter. I enjoy reading and gardening and I love my three cats and my turtle! My husband and I have been married for 18 years and moved from Maine to NY eight years ago due to a job transfer for my husband. I have worked in the past as an accounts payable clerk, data entry clerk and office administrator, but became disabled a couple years ago due to a blocked carotid artery and mini-strokes, which effect blood flow to the brain and have left me with dizzy spells, headaches, vision problems, left-sided numbness and balance issues. It was difficult suddenly not being able to work or drive anymore, but my husband and I have tried to focus on the positive and do activities that are within my health limitations.

Why I am a Mormon

I learned about the Mormon Church through a dear friend of mine from high school, whom I got back in touch with through Facebook a couple years ago, after being out of touch for 25 years! It was during this time that I became ill, and unfortunately, the church I belonged to at the time was not very helpful; it was so big that I think members just became lost in the shuffle sometimes and I never felt a real connection to anyone there. My Mormon friend was very encouraging to me at this very difficult time in my life, and I started asking him questions about his faith, as he seemed to be so happy and to really have his life together! I finally ended up reading the Book of Mormon and it made so much sense to me and really rang true. I then contacted the missionaries who were wonderful and not intimidating at all, as I was afraid they might be! Two of the most wonderful young men I have ever known and they were very kind and patient with me, answering all my questions. I was baptized in June and am SO happy to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints, also known as Mormons. I have found that the members are people that I can really depend on. They really are all about service to God and their fellow human beings. They have truly become like a family to me, and the feelings of depression and isolation that I had when I first became ill have completely disappeared! They have shown me that I still have so much to offer and so much to give and I have never been happier in my life!

How I live my faith

Being a new member, I thought that it might be quite awhile before I was called to do anything at church; however, a couple weeks ago I was asked to give a talk at church, which I was overjoyed to do! I was able to share my conversion story and all that the church has done to strengthen my faith in God and to give me a renewed purpose in life. I try to live out my faith every day by being helpful to all those I come in contact with throughout the day; whether it is to write an encouraging message to a friend who is going through a difficult time or listen to someone that needs to talk. My husband and I also try to have the missionaries over at least a couple times a month for dinner to share fellowship and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I start off each day with prayer and end the day the same way. I also try to keep the Sabbath holy by attending church, reading scripture and spending quality time with my husband. I also enjoy watching BYU TV to learn more about my faith; its Channel 9403 on Dish Network and it has wonderful programming!
