Hi I'm Eric

I'm a father of seven boys and one girl. I have Celiacs. I'm a teacher who lives in Alaska. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Family has always been important to me. That's why I love being a husband and dad so much. I have been incredibly blessed to have seven boys with my wife, including a set of identical twins who are my oldest. They bring me such happiness. When I have had a frustrating day or feel overwhelmed, nothing cheers me up more than to see my four-year old light up when I walk through the door or when my six-year old comes running at me to give me a hug. I was also recently diagnosed with Celiacs, which means I can't eat any gluten. Gluten is found in wheat, barley, and rye. It has been a huge adjustment to eat without wheat but I feel better than I ever have and am grateful I found out before I had more complications. I think in a lot of ways, having Celiacs and being a member of the Church are similar. When I try tell people about Celiacs and gluten and why I can't eat it, they have all kinds of questions and misconceptions. I am grateful for what I have found out and wish more people understood what it is. It has made me so much more aware of what I eat and take into my body and I am more healthy because of it. Likewise, I owe everything good in my life to what Christ has done for me and that has come to me by being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Like Celiacs, many people have misconceptions about what the Mormon church is. But fo me, it is how I have learned about Christ and how to follow His teachings.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe in and follow Jesus Christ. I study the scriptures everyday and try live by their teachings. Following Jesus Christ shapes everything I do in life. When I was a teenager and starting to wonder about the reality of things, I remember looking into the night sky filled with stars. So many wonders. So many planets and stars. How is it that He could know who I am and what I need? I felt an overwhelming assurance that God does know and love me. He is concerned with my worries and needs. He watches over me and sent His Son that I may return to Him. I study the Bible daily and love how it testifies of Jesus Christ. I see how Old Testament prophets prophesied of Him and I love to read the Gospels and their witness of His coming. I have also read the Book of Mormon and know that it is a witness of Jesus Christ. Prophets have always been called to declare God's message and God has continued to do that today. I know many people think that sounds strange in our days. But how many people recognized God's hand when Christ walked upon the earth? How many realized Peter, John, Philip and Paul were true representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ when they went about preaching His word? Truly God works in mysterious ways. But to those who will come and see, they are rewarded with the reassurance that He is still at work among men. And He is still calling people to hear and follow his words through prophets and apostles.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday. I have always been spiritual in nature and seeking truth and doing what God wants me to have always been a part of who I am. I try to make the things in my life reflect my choices to serve God and love my fellow neighbors. I became a teacher because of that. I want to serve others and help them see how God has impacted my life so they can be blessed as well. I pray often and believe God hears and answers prayers. I know the Lord has heard my prayers and answered them. I think one of the great experiences in life is to come to know for yourself that God does know you and responds to your prayers. Sincerity and humility are required to have prayers answered. And like the Savior, we must be willing to follow His will and not ours. But that process of coming to know my Father in Heaven through daily spiritual communication has brought me closer to Him and helped me understand better my purpose in life.
