Hi I'm Brett Ackerman

I'm a wildlife biologist. I'm a fly fisherman. I'm a father of five, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father of five children and have a wonderful wife, whom I've been married to since 1995. I spend a great deal of time in the outdoors, both for recreation and in my work as a wildlife biologist.

Why I am a Mormon

I have Mormon pioneer ancestry on both sides of my family, tracing back almost to the restoration of the gospel through Joseph Smith, with whom I share a common ancestor who came to the United States on the Mayflower. Despite my family's extensive history in the church, my spiritual journey has been one of a very individual and personal nature. My life has been impacted in every way by my relationship with my Heavenly Father, and I often marvel at the abundance of blessings and happiness in my life. I know that I am a child of God, who loves me and is aware of me. Because I know I am his child, I know we all are. I often wish I could open my heart for one minute for others to look inside and find the happiness that is there because of obedience to his commandments. I know that happiness is there for anyone who pursues it, regardless of circumstance. He is a God of mercy, love and forgiveness, and simply asks us to do our best to walk the path of righteousness. I feel more fortunate than I can express that he blesses me when I live righteously.

How I live my faith

I often spend many hours a week in my calling as a Bishop, doing my best to mourn with those who mourn and comfort those who stand in need of comfort. I find myself wondering how I became so fortunate to be blessed with so many opportunities to give meaningful service to others. It is truly sanctifying to do so, and I've often said that I believe Heavenly Father reserves his choicest blessings for those who provide service to his children in need. I see time and time again as people serve each other, that the Lord blesses their lives.
