Hi I'm Sherman Lillie,

I grew up in Salt Lake City not being a Mormon. I joined the church at 19, went on a mission, I am 51 years old and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Structural Steel Detailer. That means I draw each and every piece of steel in a building so some one can make it and put it together. I have done many notable buildings. One of them was Mr Bill Gates residence, another was the chapel we worship in, and in the Seattle area, I did the Benaroya Symphony hall. We live in the Seattle area and love all of its beauty. We love to boat in the San Juan's. I love Radio Control airplanes and helicopters. I am a pilot. We love to Snowmobile in the winter. I am now spending my spare time taking landscape pictures and loving it. I have 3 children, and 2 grandchildren. We have been married for 28 years and very much in love.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 19, I almost got married. I was not LDS but she was and she wanted a temple marriage, I did not understand what this meant and thought it was just like being married in a chapel, This became a wedge between us and we ended up going separate ways. For a long time this bothered me, I would ask my coworkers what a temple marriage was all about and eventually i began to meet with the missionaries. Soon I was praying to know if the church was true. One of the things that most stood out in my mind was learning that we were spirit children with our Heavenly Father before this life, I had always know this was true and when the missionaries told me this, the holy spirit boar testimony to me. Another thing I gained a testimony of early was the restoration of the gospel, I had known Jesus had organized his church with apostles and profits, and when I heard that the priesthood was restored to the earth, I knew I needed to be baptized. At 21 I chose to serve a full time mission. I now have a testimony of temple marriages, I have been married in the temple now for 28 years and so thankful for eternal marriages. I am also thankful for the blessings of the gospel and the strengths it give me and my family.

How I live my faith

I have served in the church in many leadership capacities. I have been a missionary from the time I joined the church and have had many wonderful experiences helping my friends and neighbors come to a knowledge of the truthfulness of the gospel. I now work with my 11 year old son in the Scouting program. In the community, I was the President of the local Radio Control flying club for about 4 years where I am known for not participating in flying activities on Sundays. I try to be a good example and some times the club would change the flying social activities from a Sunday to a Saturday just so I could be involved. Even my youngest son has been known for being a missionary to the guys at the flying field.
