Hi I'm Barb

I'm a friend, wife, mother, substitute teacher, triathlon amateur, with a portrait photography obsession. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm like any other woman out there trying to keep life rolling along for everyone around me: kids, family, friends, my husband. I want to enjoy life. I want to keep laughing and loving people. I want to have a forgiving heart. I want to lose a few pounds. I wish I was more organized. I love that I have a witty sense of humor. I enjoy following my kids around like an entourage. I love fashion. I will never have enough shoes or necklaces. I like the fact that I enjoy being a high school substitute teacher. I still can't believe I applied to an open casting call for a TV show and they wanted me! I love that my husband does the laundry and the dishes. I am in awe of the fact that when I opened my heart and mind to the gospel, I found my potential to be an endless array of opportunities. I get to strive to live the life I always dreamed of having.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert and my journey took nearly a decade with many missionary lessons and a lot of soul searching. Some people know right away. I'm not one of those people, but when my time came, I knew in my heart that the scriptures were true. Furthermore, my husband and I came to the realization that the values and principles of Latter-Day Saints were in-synch with our own values. Family comes first. Service is important. Being kind is essential. And, I had never met a Mormon that I didn't admire as a person. We also wanted our children to grow into capable people with a strong foundation and strive for all that is good in the world. Being a Mormon isn't about having a label slapped on me. It's about finding my way to be a light in everyone's life. When people ask me, "What is it about you that makes you, YOU?" The answer? It's because I have the light of Christ within me. Before joining the church, nobody ever asked me that question. I am a Mormon because it makes me, a better me.

How I live my faith

I teach Sunday school to the high school aged young women that attend our church. I love it and I love the fact that my teenage daughter and I can share this positive time together. Youth activities are a ton of fun where we do anything from playing games to community service projects. The best part is, the youth get to choose what they would like to do, which is a healthy way for them to be involved in leadership roles. I also have assisted in the local Family History Center helping people trace their family history. It's so important to make those connections to our ancestors and discover their stories. We owe so much to those from the past. I am what I am because of their hardwork and we should make every effort to help their legacy live-on through future generations. I also use my talents outside of church by donating my time to the local high school band which my daughter is a part of and teaching science to my son's class. One thing the church has taught me, which I never learned from previous churches I attended, is that I have worth and I am talented. Things I thought I could never do, I am doing! I did a triathlon and I'm a big girl. It's not a slam on myself - it's just a fact. Then, I ended up on a TV show! Wow! How did that happen? You know what else? Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to learn to play the piano. At 35-years-old, I did just that! I started playing the flute again. I feel so enriched and I feel amazing. Who doesn't want to feel amazing?
