Hi I'm Tom

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I’m a father of five children and grandfather of ten (so far!). I’ve been a high school science teacher for 32 years. My students keep me young! I’ve coached football, baseball, and softball. I love sports, reading, Sc-Fi, gardening, and learning something new daily At school, I’m the site rep for our teachers’ union, as well as the Facilitator for our School Council.

Why I am a Mormon

My freshman year in college I made friends with another dorm-mate. He just happened to have been in the process of taking the missionary discussions (which were quite regimented back then), before he left home to attend college. By the end of the first semester he decided to continue with the discussions and was baptized in Dec. Throughout the visits with the sister stake missionaries, I felt the Spirit of the sisters, my friend, and the principles being taught. Never did I feel that what I was being taught was wrong or untrue. The only “glitch” was that the sisters inadvertently gave me the impression that to have a testimony of the Church I needed to have some great answer to my prayers about the truthfulness. But I realized later that I knew that what I had learned was true all along, principle-by-principle. I didn’t need a great epiphany. At my baptism I felt overwhelmed by the Spirit during my confirmation, when I was given the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of the hands. I knew I had made the right decision. I know that Heavenly Father lives and loves us. That Jesus is the Christ and atoned for all of mankind. Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he restored the true Church. And Thomas S. Monson is God’s prophet on Earth today. What a blessing to have a spokesman for God to lead in these latter days.

How I live my faith

Desiring to share my testimony with others, I quit college and went to work to earn enough money to pay off my school loans and set money aside for a mission. It took a little over a year to do so, making me a very "old" Elder in the Buenos Aires North Argentina Mission for two years. Having the opportunities to serve keep me busy. Just began participating in the Church’s Indexing Program (entering data from digital document images into a digital database for use in genealogy). My Church service has involved several positions of leadership and teaching in my ward and stake. Presently, I’m serving as the secretary for my High Priest Group.
