Hi I'm David

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married since 1975 to an amazing woman. We have six children, five of whom have married and brought 14 grandchildren into our world. I'm a professor and my wife is a piano teacher. We love learning with our students.

Why I am a Mormon

I have considered lots of other ways to think about life and our reasons for being here. None of them are any more satisfying than the truths that come from God's revelations to prophets throughout history, including right now. I have tested many of these principles in my own life and seen them tested in the lives of others. I especially like the LDS view that whatever is good in the world, we embrace it and want to add to it, if possible. So, empirically, the restored Gospel is very compelling. But beyond that, I continue to have powerful spiritual experiences too, which confirm all the truths I've found empirically and experientially but go beyond the physical realms. The Book of Mormon has been especially powerful for me because as I read it, I continue to feel sure that Joseph Smith could not have made this up. It has to be from God as far as all my logic, experience, and spiritual confirmations can tell me. And it testifies of Christ! I want to follow Christ wherever He leads me and the Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, the Pearl of Great Price, the Doctrine and Covenants, and living prophets point me to Him and His atonement and example and Gospel. Also, the Holy Ghost teaches me the truth of all these sources and many more. Obeying the Holy Ghost has led me to be a member of Christ's church and to seek daily to follow Him better.

How I live my faith

My faith is my way of life. It isn't something I can turn on or off. It is central to who I am. I think that is true of everyone, whatever their faith may be. I've known scientists who have complete faith in their scientific method, for example. They live up to that faith in their daily actions. That is how I feel about the revelations of God to people throughout the centuries. I really do believe He is the Father of our spirits and wants us to have full joy. The only way to have that kind of joy is to do what He invites us to do. As I do that, I'm expressing my faith and it is growing and my joy is growing too.
