Hi I'm Dave

I grew up in California and now live with my wife and three kids in Colorado. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I married my wife Melissa in 1999 and we have 3 kids. I love spending time with them more than anything, whether we're exercising in the outdoors, playing a board game, watching a movie or just hanging out. I am a periodontist and love my job. I went to dental school in California and joined the army to pay for it. I completed a periodontal residency in the army and lived in Missouri doing my payback time for the military. I shopped around for about a year until I found a great practice available in a place that seemed just right for raising our family. We've lived in Colorado for just a short time but love getting to know the area. As for hobbies, I like to play the guitar, explore the outdoors, I love to run and love reptiles and other exotic animals.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that already had a strong belief in the Mormon faith so I don't have any dramatic story of missionaries bringing the gospel to my home. I do however have my own experience of conversion to the teachings of Jesus Christ that I had heard since I was little. I always felt it to be true but I can distinctly remember one of the first times I knew it to be true independent of anyone else. As a teenager I decided that I wanted to read the Book of Mormon for myself. I remember one afternoon lying on the floor in my bedroom while my mom was making dinner downstairs. I don't remember what part I was reading, but I do remember the strong feeling I had. I felt a very distinct confirmation in my heart that what I was reading was true. I could only explain it as a warm feeling of excitement in my chest about what I was reading. There was no mistaking it. I have felt that feeling many times since then confirming to be the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I had the experience to serve as a missionary for two years in Hong Kong and witnessed the power of the gospel in changing the lives of many people. Nothing has given purpose to my life like the gospel has. It has shown me the real meaning of this life; it is a time to prepare to meet God, it is a time of trial, a time of hard work, a time of serving others, and a time to raise my family to resist the degrading morals of the world. It has given my life real purpose.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a variety of ways. I think the only way to live a faith is to follow the teachings. I try to live as an example of the teachings of Jesus Christ in my behavior towards others, honesty, in my family life and in my personal morality. I stay away trash on the internet, movies and TV. I spend quality time with my family and treat patients and those in my profession with honesty and respect. I read the scriptures daily (by scriptures I mean the Bible, Book of Mormon, modern day revelation...) and pray several times through the day. On Sundays I attend church and have a calling serving in the Elder's Quorum (a group of guys similar in age to me). My calling is to coordinate service projects for those in need. I also have a calling as a home teacher. That involves visiting and checking up on three families monthly and helping them out with any needs they might have.
