Hi I'm Katie

I'm an Alaskan, a missionary, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a missionary, I am college student, I am an Alaskan, I am a military child, I am a world traveler, I am a member of a very blended family, I am a reader, I am sometimes an adventurer, and I am always a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I have lived my whole life as a Mormon, and while have always been grateful for the values and joy in life that it has given me, it wasn't until just a few years ago that I really realized why I continue to consider myself a member of this church. I didn't have an "aha" moment of conversion or an all-of-a-sudden realization of truth - my testimony of this Gospel grew over time, reinforced and strengthened by Heavenly Father's many displays of love in my life. It grew subtly and sweetly in a way that brought the joys of the Gospel into my life in the most intricate ways. I have found joy in this Gospel within, rather than in spite of my trials. I, along with every other person on this earth, have suffered pain and sadness in my life. While these hard times are always difficult to bear, I have learned that despite our human weaknesses and imperfections, every single one of us has access to the joy and blessings of Heaven that come when we learn to rely on and trust in our Heavenly Father. God intends for us to be happy, and to learn during our time on earth to magnify our gifts and find joy in our experiences. Even when hard times come, we really can find joy in our journey when we rely on faith. I would feel lost without the knowledge of my Heavenly Father's love for me - that's why I am Mormon, and that's why I'm a missionary. I love the happiness and comfort that comes from choosing to live the Gospel and I want to share that message of joy with the whole world.

How I live my faith

While going to school at BYU, I attended a ward especially for young single adults, especially students, in my area. In my ward, I had a calling as a Sunday School teacher, so for one hour every few Sundays, I would teach a prepared lesson on a segment of our Gospel's doctrine to my peers. I am now serving a full-time mission for our church in Auckland, New Zealand and feel very blessed to have the opportunity to serve Heavenly Father's children by helping to share with them the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost has so many roles in our lives - He is a comforter in times where we have need of Heavenly help, a testifier of the truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a constant companion on the path of life as long as we invite His presence. We all have the capability of feeling the comfort, peace, and guidance that He can give us. When we are confirmed as members of the Lord's church on the earth and are blessed with the gift of the Holy Ghost, we make a promise with our Heavenly Father to live the principles of His gospel and receive in return the possibility of having His Spirit with us at all times if we are living in such a way that encourages His presence. When we have the influence of the Holy Ghost in our lives, we can be comforted by the truths of which He can testify to us and the love of our Father in Heaven that He can communicate to us. One of the greatest blessings that we can experience through the gift of the Holy Ghost is that of divine direction in our lives. As we pray to our Heavenly Father to guide our lives, His Spirit can impress upon us promptings and feelings of comfort and direction so that we can better know how to follow the path that God has for us and feel the peace of God's love along the way.
