Hi I'm David Knapp

I am a Navy Veteran, I am a Mormon

About Me

I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. I served 23 years in the US Navy. I loved it and hated to retire, however it was time for me to move along. I have had many callings in the Church and I love to share the great message I have found about my life and how it relates to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am an HAM radio operator. I have ponds with koi and gold fish and frogs in them, and many beautiful plants. I love to practice my green thumb. I also have a 150 gallon fish tank that is so beautiful. My green thumb is great underwater. I love to share the Gospel and help others find the happiness that my Saviour blessed me with. I am living a retired life now and travel around the great Northwest enjoying the beauty of this part of the greatest nation on earth. I have now become a Church Service Missionary helping others with finding their ancestors and doing their family history.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church after searching 11 major churches. I would attend them and see what they offered and sought for something that I had been missing in my first church. Through my studies I concluded that many churches had peices of the things that my heart told me was correct and true to the Bible. At this point in my life I was about 23 years old and felt that if I could not find the right church, I would take what I found in all these churches and combine them into one church that I felt God had originally designed. I prayed a lot for direction and roamed through the doors of many churches. During my search, a friend of mine was joining the "MORMON" church and going to marry this lovely lady he had been dating for a while. They were madly in love and he was so "fired up" over this religion and what he had found to be his guiding light. I was alarmed and knew that I had to step in and stop this as I knew he was on the path I had never studied. I have great respect for my friend and had to figure it out. He was excited to share the things he had learned and I was asking many questions that he as a new convert could not answer. I was very detailed and very "studied" in the Bible and wanted to know how things would play out with the questions I had encountered in the other churches that they failed to answer. I felt determined to help my friend stumbled on something that made him so happy, and I wanted to feel that special feeling he had. Through a long study, about six months or so, my friend and his girlfriend and her family spent many hours helping me study and read about those things that made this church different from all the rest. There were so many similar things. I was asked by a missionary to read the Book of Mormon, I roamed it's pages and landed on many things that helped me understand in my heart that this is indeed a collection of scriptures that were of God. I joined the church and my life has been GREAT!

How I live my faith

I attend church, sing in the choir, work on family history and help others with their family history too. I have had many callings from primary (a part of Sunday services designed to teach the children of the church about our Heavenly Father) to being a counselor in the Branch Presidency (a position that helps the local leader conduct affairs of the church and Sunday services to our military members) at Camp Pendleton, Califonria. I was a "group leader" during desert storm and have served members in this calling in many countries of the world. In combat and in peace times, the Lord has found me to be a useful person in the Kingdom and blessed me with many ways to learn and better myself. I have had many opportunities to minister to those asking questions about this Church. I read the message from our Heavenly Father and find that my heart rings true with those things that make me a better person and most importantly, it gives me direction. Throughout my Navy career, I would pray and rely on the Holy Ghost to guide me. He always came through and my career was very successful. I really feel my life would have been not nearly as fruitful and successful regarding my life and spiritual growth. This church is a guide for my daily life, not just a Sunday church!
