Hi I'm Brett

I grew up in Seattle. I study International Relations, I'm serving a mission, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile. Before my mission, I was studying International Relations. When I get back from my mission, I plan to continue my studies. I love music and I play quite a few instruments, but mostly piano and cello. I've played in jazz bands, rock bands, orchestras, funk bands, and garage bands.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the Church. My father and my siblings were all members, but my mother wasn't. She grew up Methodist. When I was about six years old, she decided to get baptised and join LDS Church. This Church means so much to me. It's a huge part of who I am. I know the truth of this gospel and the sacrifice that Christ made on our behalf. I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to know the plan that Heavenly Father has for us. Not only is it important to me, but I found the truth of it for myself when I was 16 years old. I'd never really had a strong belief that it was true, but I realised that if I was going to follow all of the standards of the Church I would need to know of its truth for myself. After reading the Book of Mormon again, I prayed to know of its truthfulness for myself. I received a witness that it is true, and that's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Before I came on my mission, where everything is centered on my faith, I taught a Sunday School class of 10- and 11-year-old boys. It was a very humbling experience. I learned that you don't really know the scriptures very well until you can teach them to a group of kids who are bouncing off the walls. Right now on my mission, I'm constantly focused on how I can better live my faith and bring to others the joy that the gospel has given me.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon, like the Bible, is a collection of sacred writings from ancient prophets. In the Bible, we have the Old Testament and the New Testament, which both testify of Jesus Christ and His divine mission on the Earth. Today, we have Another Testament of Jesus Christ in the Book of Mormon. We call it the Book of Mormon because an ancient prophet-historian in the Americas, named Mormon, compiled and abridged about a century's worth of writings into the Book we have now. His son, Moroni, followed in his footsteps, completed the abrigdement, and buried it to keep it safe. When the Gopel of Christ was restored in the 1800s, God brought forth the Book of Mormon through Joseph Smith "unto the convinving of Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ"(Book of Mormon Title Page). The Book of Mormon helps us come closer to Christ. Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

The name of our church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon testifies of Christ. When we are baptised, we take upon us the name of Christ. The person, therefore, that we must have faith in is Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
