Hi I'm Camella
I am a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. These roles define my life and help remind me who I truly am as a daughter of a loving Heavenly Father. I am also a nurse and a teacher at the community college where I get to share my love of nursing with those I teach and help to care for. The most important relationship in my life is with my Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. After that my family and friends bring me an indescribable joy which fills my heart and soul. I am fifth generation Mormon here in the South which is very unusual but these roots give me such a foundation to help on my journey in life. Most of the decisions I have made in life, particularly the important ones, have been made with the knowledge of my forefathers and the link I am in the Eternal chain back to my Heavenly Home as part of an Eternal Family. I married my best friend 28 years ago in the temple for time and all eternity. Being married in the temple has been the foundation to our successful marriage. Our children have followed our pattern and have also chosen to be married in the temple. I find no greater joy than to know my children walk in light and truth. And now the joy of watching another generation is overwhelming. I am happy to be sandwiched in the middle of generations still remaining true to the faith that our parents have cherished! I also love to travel and watch sappy movies and make crafts and listen to music and spend time with my family.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon because I have never known a time when I did not know that the church was true. I was born in a family of Mormons who for generations have lived the gospel. None of us are perfect but we know that we have a Heavenly Father who loves us and that He lives. We know that he has a Son, Jesus Christ, who through much sacrifice has given us the gift of the Atonement so our imperfections are forgiven as we strive daily to be more like Him. We believe that the Prophet Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God and he helped restore the true gospel of Jesus Christ back to the earth and the saving ordinances of the gospel are found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe that the Book of Mormon was translated by the Prophet Joseph and is the Word of God. We also believe that Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet on the earth today. I have known these truths not just because I have been taught them all my life but because I have asked for myself. I have always found great comfort and peace in knowing that I could receive answers to my prayers through revelation for myself and not have to take anyone else's word for it. Through study and prayer, I have come to know the truthfulness of the gospel and its doctrines beyond any doubt. Throughout my life, I have recognized there are truths that each of us can relate to which help to cement our testimonies so that we will never turn away from these precious truths.
Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?
His teachings in parables have always influenced me. I am particularly touched when I read and reread the parable of the Prodigal Son. I relate to the characters in this parable in so many ways and feel a closeness to my Savior who makes it possible for all of us as Prodigals to return to Him. What a blessing this knowledge is in my life!
How has attending Church services helped you?
I have always thought that my attending church is a fulfillment to a commitment to my Heavenly Father that I made even before I was born. Church is a time for me to renew this commitment to Him and His Son, Jesus Christ. I feel renewed and refreshed as I learn so much, feel the Spirit, and mingle with those of similar faith.
How I live my faith
I live my faith daily as a part of who I am. Actually, being a member of the church is at the core of who I am and everything I do is based on my religion and the principles and doctrines that I have chosen to live. I have made covenants with my Heavenly Father and strive daily (sometimes hourly) to keep these sacred covenants which shape what I am and what I do. My knowledge of who I am and why I am here on this earth helps me to make decisions as I go through this journey we call life. I am happiest when I remember these important truths. Studying the gospel and praying for the Spirit and following the promptings of the Spirit I have as a Gift of the Holy Ghost give me strength and knowledge and the faith to continue in this turbulent life. I have learned that I am strongest when adversity is part of my life. So I am grateful for the challenges that I have had and continue to have in my life. That which does not kill us can only make us stronger. I live my faith by following the examples of so many good people around me. I also live my faith by showing gratitude for the blessings I have been given. Gratitude reminds me of where all my blessings truly come from. I have learned also to live my faith by saying "Thy will be done" in all things. Turning over my life to the Lord in all His Majesty is not easy for one who wants to be in control like I do most of the time, but it is truly the best way to live our lives. I have also learned to live my faith by being true to the commitments I have made and fulfilling my callings in life and in the church to the best of my abilities.
