Hi I'm Lisa

I'm the mother of five, a middle school teacher, and a soccer coach. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The love of a family is life's greatest blessing!! I'm a Mom first and foremost. That is the single most defining event/love of my life. I have 5 amazing kids that bring me much joy. I am LDS and have been fortunate to work with the Young Women of our church for over 20 yrs. I love to learn, and obtained my Bachelor's degree in Exceptional Student Education. I currently work in a private school as a middle school teacher, and have recently been engaged in being the soccer coach for our high school. I love college football, watching my girls play softball, hearing my kids sing and play the piano and guitar, and long walks on the beach as I mindlessly gather shark teeth. I have always enjoyed cooking/baking, and have recently become obsessed with playing guitar hero with my children. I am currently enrolled in a graduate program to become a Certified Behavior Analyst.

Why I am a Mormon

I was fortunate to be born into an LDS family. What this means is that at the age of 8, I chose to be baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The church is my way of life. The morals, values, and belief system are an integral part of who I am. As a young woman, I chose each and every day to remain true to our principles. I always wanted to become a Mom, and I knew that the only way that I desired to raise my children would be as members of the church. This lifelong dream kept my goal fixated on getting married in the temple. Although I was born into the covenant, I have a testimony of the truthfulness of this church. I know that the young boy, Joseph Smith, went into a grove of trees and prayed to find out which church he should join. I also know that under the direction of our loving Heavenly Father, and his son, Jesus Christ, that Joseph Smith was able to restore The Church of Jesus Christ to these latter days. I know that if you read the Book of Mormon, with real intent, and pray about it's truthfulness, that the Lord will answer your prayers as He has answered mine. I know that if you abide by the precepts of this gospel, that the Lord will pour out his most choice blessings upon your head...I know this, because I live it every day of my life. I know that we need a living prophet to lead and guide us in this tumultuous time, and that our Heavenly Father has given us such a man, President Thomas S. Monsen. I am blessed to have the constant protection and guidance of the Holy Ghost, who lets me know each and every day that my Heavenly Father is mindful of me, that he knows me by name, and that He loves me. We are, that we might have joy. The most sure way to feel that joy, is through the teachings and precepts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know, because I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I love the fact that my faith does not entail only attending church on Sunday's. I love that I am able to live the gospel each and every day through the choices that I make. This church places a huge emphasis on the importance of family. Everything that we do is done so that we can live righteously in order to return to live with our Heavenly Father with our families. We spend inordinate amounts of time with our families, as we teach them, guide them, and love them. My values and morals dictate the music I listen to, the movies I watch, the clothes that I wear, the language that I subject myself to, and the friends who surround me. I strive to serve my family, and those around me with a happy heart. I have been blessed to work with the youth of our church for over 20 years. I am currently the Sunday School teacher for 15 yr old boys and girls, and that brings me much joy each Sunday as we learn about the teachings of our Savior. I enjoy the sisterhood that I feel with my ward friends who uplift and strengthen me. I invite the missionaries into my home whenever possible so that I can feel of their spirit and learn from them as I serve them. One of my most favorite things to do is to have our weekly Family Home Evening, where my family gathers together to study the gospel of Jesus Christ, to play games, and to have family councils. I love living by the teachings of our Savior, and I love the blessings that this church has brought into my life.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Lisa
We believe that our bodies are a direct gift from a loving Heavenly Father. In order to keep ourselves healthy and to maintain strength, we need to be cautious of the things that we take into our bodies. In 1833, our Prophet Joseph Smith received revelation that we call "The Word of Wisdom". That Word of Wisdom dictates how to honor our bodies by eating the right kinds of foods, exercising, not over-indulging, and by abstaining from certain foods and addicting substances. Among those things that were listed as being habit forming, and bad for our good health are: tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea, and illegal drugs. We believe as we abstain from these habit forming substances, that our bodies will remain healthier, we will live longer lives, and we will receive the blessings that the Lord has promised as we abide by His counsel.
