Hi I'm Melanie

I live in the Washington, DC area. I have a goal to read a biography of every U.S. president. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in sunny San Diego, but I currently live and work in the Washington, DC area. I love to read, cook, write, and travel. My favorite book is East of Eden, my favorite thing to bake is browned butter brownies, and my favorite place I've visited (so far) is Istanbul.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it makes me happy. The core principles of the gospel - God is my Father, Jesus Christ suffered an atonement and was resurrected, the full gospel of Jesus Christ was restored through Joseph Smith, there are prophets and apostles on the earth today, sacred temple ordinances allow families to be together forever - are things that bring me peace and provide direction as I make decisions. I know that these things are true because I have read, prayed, pondered, questioned, struggled, but most of all lived the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a result, I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ’s church on this earth.

How I live my faith

Every morning when my alarm goes off, I roll out of bed and onto my knees and say a (semi-coherent) prayer to my Father in Heaven. I make time for daily scripture study and spend three hours each Sunday at church. I'm lucky enough to live near the beautiful Washington, DC temple, and I go there to worship as often as I can. But besides all of these formal things I do to live my faith, I try to be a disciple of Christ in all that I do. I certainly fall short more often than I would like, but I know that I'm moving in the right direction.
