Hi I'm Don

I am an IT professional, husband, father and grandfather and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a computer nerd. I got a degree in computer science and have worked as a programmer my entire career. I love to cycle and have done that through out my life. A new hobby I recently started is paintball. I love the challenge and the rush of trying to out wit my opponents. And now that I am getting old, it helps me to stay young. Another new hobby I have is playing with grand kids. This is a great hobby and I highly recommend it!

Why I am a Mormon

My mother's family is from a long line of LDS. My father joined the church as a teenager. I grew up in the church. For me, my membership in the church is not just a belief system, it is a way of life. However, there came a point in my life where I felt that my belief in Jesus Christ as my Savior was real and that I was committed to it and to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I came to realize that I wanted to become more like my Heavenly Father and that I had much to learn. The process of learning and becoming more Christ like is a life long process, one that gives my life purpose and meaning. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I feel very blessed to have it in my life. I hope I can live up to my own expectations.

How I live my faith

I love to serve by helping others. When ever I can, I take the opportunity to do things like visit those who are elderly and confined, or helping to replace the roof of someone who had lost their job, or helping the boy scouts at scout camp. To keep myself spiritually fed, I attend my Sunday meetings where I can learn the gospel. In addition, I read my scriptures and pray daily. This is how I learn about my Heavenly Father and how he will bless me. For me, another important part of my faith is my family, starting with my wife and children and all my extended family. Knowing that I can have an eternal family affects the way I love and treat them.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Don
To me, self reliance is about being prepared and ready to provide for myself and others. The gospel teaches us to love and help others. One way I can do this is to be ready for the emergencies life will at some point give us so that I can then be better able to help others. This is not only true for the physical aspects of life such as extra money in the bank or food storage at my house, but also in emotional and spiritual matters. Show more Show less
