Hi I'm Matt

I'm a disc golfer, banjo beginner, food lover, board gamer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

If I were to list who I think I am in order of priority this would be my list: 1. Child of God and spiritual brother to all of you. 2. A Disciple of Jesus Christ. 3. A husband of the best cook in the world not to mention she is really cute, and smart, and doesn't like attention. :) 4. A father of the two coolest kids in the world--perfect combinations of their parents without the baggage. I'm not sure how that happened but it is true. 5. A design enthusiast, I really enjoy good design whether that be the natural world or man-made innovation and technology, art, music (trying to learn the banjo), humor, Hot Wheels :), and even a well written software program. 6. Board-gamer--I love to play games and learn and teach new games. 7. Disc Golfer--though I love to play all kinds of sports I excel most at this one. That's why I like it. :) Okay, stop with all of the emoticons. 8. Food--love to try new food and cuisines and cook with my sweetheart. This might go higher on the list. 9. Keeping it simple. I try and keep it simple as possible--it being whatever I am trying to learn, teach, discover, or describe. Hence this list. 10. I do have a job. I am a Software Quality Assurance Director for a software company. I think this is where the culmination of my love for Quality comes in and is a big reason why I am a Mormon. The Gospel is perfect quality and simplicity and the most logical thing in the Universe. Sorry, I'll get into this in the next section.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I have been a member of the Church all of my life I had to become converted like anyone has to. The process is longer or maybe just not realized until you make it through challenging times relying on the Gospel and the Savior. That's when you really know it is true. These times don't have to be when you are an adult either. As a child and a teenager I had spiritual experiences that I remember to this day. Those experiences taught me how to listen and FEEL what was good and right. What I learned as a child continues to strengthen me today. I learned in a very special way that God and Jesus Christ love me. That has been a foundation for my relationship to God and His Son as well as my relationships with my family, friends, and my fellow man. As an adult I began to gain the wisdom of making right choices and sticking with them but also learning from my mistakes and knowing that Christ always has his arms stretched out to love us, protect us, and help us back onto a happier path. I am a Mormon because my parents through their own very challenging life experiences saw truth and happiness in this Gospel and made it a standard to hold onto and took action to ensure that their family was going to be an Eternal one. I am a Mormon because I see and feel the Quality, the Perfection, the Ultimate Design of Justice and Mercy all combined in Jesus Christ: His teachings, His Church, His Priesthood Power, and His Gospel--that when followed will bring me and my family back to Him and my Heavenly Father. I simply KNOW it is TRUE!

How I live my faith

I love serving in the Church. I've had many different opportunities to serve. 1. As a missionary in Portugal. Wow! What a great experience that was--it changed me forever as I took the focus off of myself and worried about helping others. 2. As a Scoutmaster. That was very fun and frustrating all at the same time. It was my first opportunity to serve the youth. 3. As a counselor to the Bishop. This was the most humbling experience for me. It made me realize the power in unity--how a lot of different people can come together to make things work when they all have the same goal. (One mind and One heart). Their faith certainly strengthened mine. 4. As an early morning Seminary teacher for teenagers. It is true that you learn more of a subject when you have to teach it. My love of the scriptures was magnified beyond what I thought capable as well as my mind was enlightened and my knowledge increased. I had to learn to love the youth unconditionally and was rewarded with their love and I got to see their Aha! moments. 5. Now I am serving as the Ward Mission leader helping and coordinating with the full time missionaries to find those who are ready to have their spirits filled with everlasting joy. This is just a sample of all the wonderful life experiences working with and serving other people to do good. It is fulfilling. It is joyful. It is challenging but that is the only way to progress. I am not special or unique in this way--You can do it too!
