Hi I'm Kathy

I'm a wife, mother, and grandmother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. These roles mean so much to me. I love my family. We have 2 children and one darling grandson. My husband and I have been married for 32 years. Before I became a mother, I worked as a speech therapist. Now at this stage of life, my days are very flexible. I spend time being a grandma, doing volunteer work, playing tennis, traveling a bit, quilting with my sister, exercising to try to stay fit, and reading. I enjoy my association with dear friends, old and new. My husband and I are serving in a university young single adult ward so much of my time is spend with a wonderful group of young people.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that I have a Heavenly Father that loves me. His son, Jesus Christ, is my Savior and Redeemer. Because of Christ's atonement, I know I can repent and receive forgiveness for my mistakes and sins. I know that my Father in Heaven wants all his children to return to Him. In 1820 Joseph Smith prayed for divine guidance about what church he should join. In answer to that prayer, he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ. In the years following that visitation, all the ordinances and covenants of the church that Christ organized during His ministry on earth were restored to earth again. These are the core beliefs of my life. I'm not perfect in my attempts, but I try to live a Christlike life, to be a disciple of the Savior. I love this life that I have chosen. I'm happy.

How I live my faith

One of the things about my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that I appreciate are the opportunities provided to be of service to others. My husband is currently the bishop of a congregation of young, single (not married) adults so rather than attending a family congregation, I attend with the single adults also. It has been so much fun to associate with these great young people and be a part of their lives. We worship together and we play together. There is always a party or activity to attend! I volunteer one day a week at a temple that is nearby. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to teach religion classes to adults, teens, and children. I have served in the church's women's organization. Through that organization I have had opportunities to be of service to others by visiting the sick, providing meals, offering childcare, and teaching classes on a variety of topics such as floral arranging, cooking, emergency preparedness, and sewing. The church has a cannery nearby where food is processed to be given to needy families within the church and to local community food banks. I have the chance to go there and donate my time. I try to be involved in community service also. When my children were young, I enjoyed volunteering at their schools. There is a group of people that provide clothing for needy children as school starts each year. It's been rewarding to be involved in that effort. I have found that offering service to others is a great way to find happiness for myself.
