Hi I'm Lori

I live in Canada. I am currently preparing to serve as a senior missionary for the Church with my husband in Italy.

About Me

I recently left my employment working between two Catholic high schools providing advising on career and post-secondary choices to young people. I am currently spending much time learning the Italian language and preparing to serve with my husband on a mission for the church to Italy. We are very excited to go and serve the Lord on this mission. My husband and I met a bit later in life and have been together for nearly twenty wonderful years. We both really enjoy family history work and love to travel. We did not have children together but he has grown children from a previous marriage and from them, we have four grandchildren who are great fun. One of my hobbies is to write stories with them as the main characters and share those stories with them for birthdays. I also love to follow current events, watch documentaries and British television like Downton Abbey or Jane Austen adaptations. I also love the opportunity to go hiking in the mountains.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church at age 18 at the end of high school influenced by high school friends whom I admired who were members of the church. I was a very unhappy teenager and, while joining the church didn't make me a happy person overnight, I recognized that it was making a difference and that I was a better person because of the gospel teachings. I took a leap of faith that the gospel was what I needed to get my life on track and as I have grown and learned gospel principles, it did indeed revolutionize my life beyond what I could have imagined. When I read the Book of Mormon and Doctrine & Covenants, my heart tells me it is right. Reading and learning about Christ through the Bible has always felt right to me, even before I joined the Church. Going to church every week gives me such a lift. As I have shown faith in gospel principles, even when I have felt uncertain, I have grown in knowledge and faith in following the commandments of God.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to serve in the church including leadership in the women's organization, assisting in the nursery and teaching the older children in the Primary organization. I am also a Visiting Teacher, which means I get the opportunity to visit four other women in our ward (congregation) at least once a month to share a message, check on their well being, and provide service as needed. It's a really nice way to get to know others. I think my favorite place to serve is with the children because they make me smile.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Lori
We do believe in the Bible and believe it is the word of God as far as it has been translated correctly. For myself, I cannot read about Christ in the New Testament without feeling how much he is the Son of God and how important his Atonement is for us. It is a very powerful book and our other scriptures such as The Book of Mormon aid in understanding biblical teachings, Show more Show less
