Hi I'm Joe

I grew up in Michigan just north of Detroit. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married to my best friend. We've had a magical, never-ending date for the last 26 years. Close to twenty years ago, we adopted the first of our three children. I love being a dad. Nothing like it the world! Hobbies include being involved in my kids activities, spending time with my wife and building businesses. I've been a computer programmer, marketing executive, real estate investor and developer (multi-family units, subdivisions and storage units). Currently I am building out an insurance agency to help seniors. I've had great success and even greater happiness in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I started my high school years in a haze of confusion. I thought religion was a crutch for the weak minded... those that couldn't handle cold, hard reality. As I learned about our system of laws, I learned they were built on religious beliefs and practices of a distant time. I couldn't understand why we had laws, since they are based on what I thought was foolishness. I felt that if there was no God, why would we choose to follow the laws that had been built on ancient religious traditions. I kept thinking down this line: what if there is no God? The idea that we are here for an instant and gone for eternity didn't sit well with me. I wondered why anyone should bother striving in this life, if our existence is snuffed out so quickly (on a geologic scale). One day a different thought process popped in my head. What if there IS a God? What if the path I have been traveling is contrary to His path? I began to study to look for a way to prove that God is there. The only way I could find is to pray... and that wouldn't yield hard proof, but could just be the workings of my mind. I began to pray in ernest: God, if you are there, let me know. After many months of prayer, the answer came. The answer is not hard proof, but it is personal proof. I felt his presence and know He is there. I learned that he cares about what I do, and that he has a plan for me. I started searching for that path. I attended friends' churches, looking for what felt right. After much study and searching, I began to read the Book of Mormon. I felt the same feelings I had felt when I learned the God cares for me personally. I knew my path needed to be aligned with Mormonism.

How I live my faith

Currently I am a Stake Employment specialist. I love this because I am able to mix my love of professional social media, personal branding and helping others in a way that can help others. I've had many opportunities to serve in this church. That's one of the greatest things about this church. Once, I was reading a blog that was complaining that the LDS church is a self-help church. I have to agree. We are all in this earth life together, and we can (and should) help ourselves and others as much as we can.
