Hi I'm Kevin

I'm a husband, a father, and an engineer in Florida. I'm also a Mormon.

About Me

I have a wonderful wife and four young children, whom I love dearly. I enjoy reading just about anything, and I tend to get stuck in bookstores. I'm an engineer and I love math and physics. I enjoy exercising and sports, and played basketball and baseball in high school. I don't have much time to watch sports nowadays, but I sign up for cable in the fall to watch college football games. I also really enjoy singing, even though I'm not the greatest signer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of eight because my parents were members and they taught me that that was the right thing to do. As I have gotten older, I have become more and more grateful that they taught me the gospel as a child. The Church has provided a way for me to be close to God - it has taught me how to pray, how to study His word, how to love and serve others, and how living His commandments brings peace and happiness into my life. As I have put these principles into action, I have felt close to Him. Feeling the love that God has for me, as one of His children, is the sweetest feeling that I have ever felt. God has this love for all of His children, but it can sometimes be hard to feel if we are far away from Him. Living the gospel of Jesus Christ is what brings us close to God, and enables us to feel His love blessing our lives. This in turn leads us to reach out to others so that they can feel His love as well. I know by the power of the Holy Ghost that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church of Jesus Christ. I know that it has been restored in our time with prophets and apostles who receive inspiration from Jesus Christ to guide and bless our lives, and to help us to stay close to the Lord. In large part I know this because I have studied the Book of Mormon and asked God to tell me if it is truly His word. By the Holy Ghost I received an answer from Him that it is, and that it was translated by one who was called of God in our time to be a prophet - Joseph Smith. The story of Joseph Smith is a modern-day miracle, and I invite all people to read the Book of Mormon and learn for themselves through prayer that it is of God. Once I knew that, everything fell into place for me. While I am very imperfect and make mistakes, I know what I need to do to be close to God and to return to Him after this life. I also know that if I follow Him, I can be with my family forever.

How I live my faith

My current assignment at church is that of stake president. A stake president oversees a number congregations (called wards or branches), and has the responsibility to set a spiritual tone and example for all members of the stake. As part of this calling, I get to travel to the different congregations in the stake to meet with their leaders and members. I try to provide training and spiritual uplift, and teach the doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ, with a special responsibility to share my personal conviction that He is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. I also oversee efforts to help those who are in need, and to ensure that our congregations are doing this in the way the Lord has directed. In my role as stake president I have felt an almost overwhelming feeling of the love that God has for all people. This has helped me to recognize how precious each individual is. I try to always remember this in my ministry. My day job is that of an electrical engineer working for a local communications company.
