Hi I'm Charms

I'm a carer. I love researching family history! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I have five children and we are grandparents of four. I spend a lot of time caring for my daughter who has cerebral palsy. There's lots of washing and other such delights to do with two of our older children home too, but I don't think I would have it any other way! Any time is family time! Even when it's late at night! I love being a grandparent even though it took me a while to get used to being called grandma! Our children and grandchildren to me are life's treasures! We have family time each week studying scripture and dicussing the gospel, playing board games and other fun activities, besides chatting every day. And working together is another way we have fun! Then once in a while we have a great Australian barbeque! Over the years I've discovered how much I love to sew, crochet, cook, sketch and paint and do other crafty things, but my absolute favourite thing to do is family history! My interest in family history has grown so much and in doing so, living relatives have contacted me via research websites and have helped me with my search for information about my own family history and vice versa and so we've become best of friends!

Why I am a Mormon

I was 16 years old when I was baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Before that I would attend the Baptist church up the road from where we lived every now and then. My mother would take us to different gospel meetings at places around our town. It was like she was looking for something. My mother was on her own with six children and there were many hard times. She would pray and soon after the missionaries would come to our door but then she would turn them away. This happened a few times. Then one evening my mother went to visit my grandmother in hospital and while she was gone the missionaries came knocking and my older brother invited them back to visit the next night. As we were taught by these missionaries we knew from what they were telling us and from the honesty the missionaries showed to us that there was something really special about the messages they shared and that what they were teaching us was true! And now after all this time I continue to gain more knowledge of gospel truths and I love my Heavenly Father and his son and our Saviour Jesus Christ! I'm a very happy Mormon, I know Joseph Smith was the prophet through which the true Church of Jesus Christ was restored, I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God and goes hand in hand with the Bible and is for our time and I believe in prophets of old and prophets in our day! It's the most amazingly rewarding thing to have this knowledge and I wouldn't trade it for anything ever!

How I live my faith

Being baptised into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints means so much to me and I want to do what I can to show the love I have for my Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ because they've done so much for me! I want to be one of my Saviours disciples, so I must follow Him in word and deed. It's not easy but I keep going! And the good thing is there's a whole lot of others doing the same thing! I know I can make it home to my Father's presence because he's provided us with a way to do that. Through faith, repentance and baptism. It's the only way back! So we need to take the opportunity when it comes then do all we can to make it happen! And if that means picking ourselves up after we've done things wrong and starting again after truly repenting, then it's all worthwhile! I love to attend Church meetings and activities because I'm constantly learning and there's such a wonderful feeling there which makes me happy! It's not just that I'm amongst friends, it's the happiness that comes from knowing it's where Heavenly Father wants me to be and where I can learn all that I can become! I work as a volunteer in our church family history centre once a week to help others do their research and I love it! It's a pleasure to be of service in my church callings and in my everyday experiences! I try to live by the principles of the gospel each and every day!
