Hi I'm Nathan

I study physics. I like to play basketball and soccer. I like writing music. I love my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently studying physics as a graduate student. I enjoy figuring out how things work and why they behave the way they do and I think that made physics a good fit for me. Teaching and mentoring students is also very rewarding to me and I hope to continue doing this as well. Graduate school can be very stressful but I find some relief playing basketball and occasionally writing songs. I like to sing and play guitar although I am probably not the best at either. I also enjoy playing soccer and snowboarding. The most enjoyable thing in my life right now is to spend time with my wife and two, soon to be three, children. My role as a husband and father is the most important thing to me. I enjoy cooking and working on photography with my wife. I enjoy wrestling with and reading to my children. I can't think of anything that makes me happier than spending time with them.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in this church. My parents, both converts, were great examples to me of how to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. As I have strived to follow my parents examples I have realized that it has helped me follow the example of Jesus Christ. I have found that I am constantly becoming a better husband, father, and person as I help others and participate in the Lord's church. What is impressive to me is that the Lord has set up His church in such a way that I can be taught and helped in a very personal way. The continual growth that I have experienced and the peace, joy and love that I have felt as I have strived to follow Christ's teachings are the reasons that I am a Mormon. I have felt His love and the calm assurance of the truth as I have sought it in prayer. As I study the scriptures and even as I study secular topics at school my faith is increased and I know that Jesus is our Savior and that this is His church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by showing my love to others. I have had many different responsibilities in the church like teaching the children, leading music, organizing activities, and helping in the Boy Scout and Cub Scout programs. In my current responsibility as a ward mission leader I help organize the missionary efforts in the area I live in. It is great to be able to meet people from all different backgrounds and help them and encourage them to better their lives. I work with many great members of the church and we try to understand the needs of the individuals we are visiting and pray and discuss how we can best serve them. We then work together to reach out and to teach and serve them. My favorite responsibilities have involved teaching individuals and helping them improve their lives. Each member of the church has the opportunity to lift each other up as we receive assignments to visit each other’s homes. I enjoy this opportunity to get to know a few families at a time and have grown to love each family as I have been able to visit with them in their homes monthly and serve them as they have needed.
