Hi I'm Sarah

I'm a Brummy, a musician, a law graduate and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a law graduate seeking to work in the field of International human rights and international development. I am currently working for an organisation who specialise in peacebuilding projects in central and eastern africa. Aside from this in my spare time I love to dance, act, go to the theatre-musicals are a favourite! I love music! I play and teach the violin, dabble in the piano and love to sing at any opportunity! I also have a deep love of travelling, exploring other cultures and widening my own understanding of the world.

Why I am a Mormon

There will come a point in everyone's life, whereby you will be required make clear cut decisions. Right and wrong, light or dark, whatever it is, the world would have us believe there are far more 'grey' areas than there actually are. For me, that point came in my teens, when I sought for truth and enlightment from a source far greater than my own. Too often in life we rely upon man's limited subjective reasoning to explain or justify our actions. I came to an understanding that there is a source greater than man's and that I can gain access to him through study but most importantly prayer. Coming from an LDS home, I had access to a book of mormon, which activley encourages questioning, seeking and asking this higher source for the answers to the questions of our souls. As I undertook this experiment, I began to feel a confirmation of truths that I had always desired to know. As I pondered upon the words in the book of mormon I began to feel a light and a strength that the world cannot provide. This light came because the words in the book of mormon and the bible led me to a greater understanding and belief Christ. I am a mormon because I have had a personal witness that I have a Father in Heaven who loves me and that he can help me to change and become better through his son Jesus Christ. I am a mormon because I know that same Father in Heaven has brought back his gospel today through revelation. Finally, I am a mormon because I know that the principles and precepts taught have provided me with confidence, strength and a greater capacity to love myself and others around me.

How I live my faith

The bible says 'by their fruits ye shall know them' and a reflection of the truth of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is the emphasis upon service. I have been given lots of opportunities to serve!  I recently returned from serving as a full time missionary in Oakland California. As a full time missionary I left my home in england to serve in the bay area for 19 months. Service included teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the community, serving in the community and being in the local temple visitors center. The visitors center was a building located by the mormon temple explaining our beliefs and provided interactive resources to draw all closer to christ, regardless of religious background or denomination. I loved serving this mission because it brought so much joy to my soul! I was able to lose myself entirely in the service, forgetting about the lulls of modern day life such as t.v, internet, movies, mobile phones and for once concentrate on serving others. Now that I am home, I help out with the youth in my local church, teaching and planning activities for them.

What is Mormonism? OR What do Mormons believe?

We believe that Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ have a plan of happiness for each of his children. He has revealed his plan to us through men called of God prophets since the beginning of time, as recorded in the bible. As his son Jesus Christ was sent to the earth, he too was able to teach the plan but also show us the things that needed to be done to help us get back to him. When Jesus Christ was crucified, his teachings remained, but through time his appointed teachers the apostles were killed and the message was distorted. Without leaders with authority to teach, the message though still present, was incomplete, passed through different hands and different men in society. We believe that Jesus Christ brought back these truths and this authority by following the same pattern, calling prophets to reveal his plan of happiness. In 1820 he called a man Joseph Smith to be a prophet and once again teach the principles of the gospel. An important part of this was the bringing forth of an ancient record, called the book of mormon. The book of mormon is scripture and tells the history of the inhabitants of ancient america. This book stands as a second witness fo Christ. Hence the term 'mormon' has been adopted to those who study and read the book of mormon. The record stands as confirmation that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that he has restored his church to the earth again today. Show more Show less
