Hi I'm Jean

A survivor, I'm an AMAC adult molested as Child. A single parent for 16 years. I write children's stories. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 7 - we have the yours mine and ours family. My husband brought 1 daughter and 2 sons into our marriage, and I brought 3 sons. We adopted a son, thus 7 children in our family. My main hobbies are gardening [in the desert? yup!] - Patchwork hand lap quilting, and family history genealogy, and learning! I have painted a Family Tree with my roots to Ireland, Holland, England and France... and our seven branches that keep growing! I have shelves of positive attitude, overcoming books, and find that they all relate back to Proverbs. I am a sponge when it comes to learning. As a single parent I learned to become an electrician and estimator to support my 3 sons. It was not easy for me to enter a 'man's occupation', but I know the Lord so guided me to do this, and He supported me as I learned this new job. I had many growth experiences as I overcame my 'victim' mind set and became a 'lady', a daughter of God. As a retired Grandmother I write chidren's stories for my grandchildren and any other child who would like one. My stories are done in colorbook form, so the children can feel like it really is their book. I have many children in our church that call me Grama Jean, and love to get 'their' books for special occasions. Having taught in our junior Sunday School organization for over 47 years, I do still keep in 'touch' with the child like stories that are needed to capture the imagination of the pre-school age for whom I write these stories.

Why I am a Mormon

Since I was 5 years old and attended a little white Baptist Church in Norwalk CA, I have KNOWN that Jesus is real, and He really does love the little children. I learned that through music, we were singing "Jesus loves the little children...". That testimony was given with such power that I kept searching to find it no matter where we moved. [I lived in 12 differnt places by age 18] When I was 19 I lived in Portland OR and was still seeking to find that power, warm and peaceful it was, that first brought me to Jesus. I had attended many churches over the years, and found wonderful Christian folks, and we were living the Gospel the best we knew how, but something was always missing. That power, that warmth and peace. I was also seeking 'the better way'. God had blessed me with the feeling, many times during the 'hurtful' years I was going through with my cruel step-father, the feeling and words that "it's not suppose to be like this there is a better way." So I kept seeking. Then, when I finally went to church with my landlady and her children in Portlan OR, there it was.... the powerfully warm peaceful feeling. The Elders taught me, and I was baptized because I knew this is where Jesus wanted me to be. And I learned that 'power' was, and is, the power of the Priesthood, and testimony of truth given by the Holy Ghost. I continue with this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because the power of the priesthood is here. Because the fulness of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is here. Because I know this Chruch is the True Chruch Of Christ. Because this is 'the better way'.

How I live my faith

I strive each day to "Do what Jesus would do". I pray to be of service each day. I have served in my community on the Board fo Directors for the Mohave County Fairgrounds, serving as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President. Also serving as the Exhibit hall director for 7 years. I have been in the community choir several times, and patricipated in community theater over 12 years. I currently serve with my husband as local Family History Consultants, and we have served 5 back to back missions, including 3 years in our Temple. I have, and still do, serve with our youngest members - ages 18 months to 11 years old in our orgainzation that is like a Junior Sunday School. Currently I am a substitute teacher for all the age level classes, and I love serving the little children, especially since I KNOW that Jesus loves the little children. We volunteer at the Family History Library Center each week as a consultants, and have several families that I teach in their home. My mother and I are companions for our visiting teaching route, we have 5 sisters that we teach and fellowship, and genreally love each month. We strive to keep in touch with our children, who live in many places away from us, and we strive to continue to be an example of Christ in their lives. Each week we phone one of our children and get posted on their activities etc. And send monthly letters to each. We have served as the Activicties directors in our church, and I have also helped the youth at summer camp times. We currently are in our church choir. And I have served as the choir director many times and many places in the past. Striving to do what Jesus would do, means I choose to be active in His Church to uplift and encourage God's children [ and we are ALL God's children] while I am here on this earth. It may seem that I 'overdo', but God has blessed my life and helped me overcome so much, and forgiven me of so much, that the 'least' I can do is be of service in His Kingdom.
