Hi I'm Matthew Lish

I'm from Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm a missionary in the Texas, San Antonio Mission. I have Crohn's Disease and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 20 years old. I love sports of all kinds basketball, football, volleyball, golf, etc. I played volleyball and basketball in highschool and I play golf with my dad and brother as much as I can. I love my family! I am the second of 5 children. I have a brother and three sisters and two of the best parents in the world. I went to college for a year, studying business and now I am currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints also known as the mormon church. I've had Crohn's Disease since I was 14 years old but I'm finding more and more ways to take care of myself so I can live a normal everyday life, especially as a missionary.

Why I am a Mormon

I love my family. They are everything to me. I'm sure many people can relate to this and I'm sure that many people want the best for there family as I do. I look at my family now and I can see that they are truly happy, not because of money, or fancy cars and big swimming pools but because of the principles that we have applied into our lives that come with being a member of the Mormon Church. Families can be together forever. Nothing brings me more peace and happiness than knowing that I can be with my family forever If we follow the teachings of Christ. Another reason I am a member of this church is becuase of the Book of Mormon. Everytime I read this book, and ponder on the teachings that it contains the Holy Spirit whispers into my heart that it is true. You can't know if it's true or not until you've read it. The Book of Mormon has helped me understand the sacrifice of our beloved Savior more than anyother book. I am grateful for the understanding that I have of my Savior and the Love that he has for me. The Savior knows what we are going through. I realized this not too long ago. Back in May of this month I realized, after much medical testing, that I had an infection in my intestines that was caused by Crohn's Disease. I've had Crohn's Disease since I was 14 years old, 6 years ago, but never has it been so bad. Throughout the months of stomache pain and the recovery from surgery I was able to feel peace and happiness. It was the Love of Jesus Christ I felt. He suffered pains and afflictions of all kinds so he could know how to succor me during my hard times. He lives. I love this church because I can feel that love, the love of the savior, all around me. I love being Mormon.

How I live my faith

I'm living my faith right now by serving a two year mission. In the Book of Mormon there is a scripture that I really like in the book of Mosiah, chapter 5, verse 13 that says," For how knoweth a master whom he has not served..." I have dedicated two years of my life to do nothing other than to serve others and help them come closer to Jesus Christ. I have come to know my Master more in these past years than I ever have before and I look foward to serving him for the rest of my life in other ways after these two years are through.
