Hi I'm Steven Roeth

I love to read deep books, talk about them, and write about them; I'm an avid golfer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I moved to Las Vegas in 1989 with my two older brothers and one younger sister, mother and father from Buena Park, California; I went to school at Bonanza High School, earned my Eagle Scout award in the Boy Scouts of America organization in my teens, and started to pursue college courses at UNLV before I started a career in the financial services business. I found my wife and was married in 2002 and we have two boys that I love to read, wrestle, and play at the park with. My wife and I love to eat out, enjoy reading together, watching movies, and especially love going to Disneyland in Anaheim California as a family. I am an avid golfer, I love to study the holy scriptures, great classical works, and enjoy an occasional session in front of the Wii (video game) with my sons.

Why I am a Mormon

I was brought up in an LDS home where I was taught the gospel by my parents both by example and by spending time together in various family activities like early morning scripture study, family home evenings, and Sunday dinners where the doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were shared. However, as a youth I wouldn't say I was really certain of the beliefs my parents were living and teaching me although I tried to be obedient. As I approached the age of 18 and began to consider the likelihood of pursuing a mission for the church, as my two older brothers had previously done in Peru and England, I began to seriously consider what I really believed about what I had been taught and what I didn't. I began to pursue a thorough study of The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, The Bible, and other scriptures. I studied, pondered and prayed about my studies and soon received a very special and poignant witness from the Holy Ghost that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was true, that the scriptures were true, and that God lives! I resolved to serve a mission in the Connecticut Hartford Mission of the church in 1999 with a desire to share my testimony of these truths with others. Through further study, service in the church, and through many sacred experiences I have deepened my knowledge of these truths which I hold as the centerpiece of my life. Understanding these things has brought great blessings of unity, peace, and love to my family and a deep and abiding testimony that God lives, Jesus is the Christ. I know that God has a plan for us today to be happy and to return to live with them again.

How I live my faith

I am in the leadership of my ward, which means I am actively involved in the week to week administration of various church meetings, church activities involving the youth of our ward, and generally assisting the Bishop, or leader, of the ward in serving the needs of our ward members. I am an active home teacher and visit a small number of families to ensure they are well both physically and spiritually on a regular basis. Being involved with these families is one of the great joys of church service. My family and I try to serve in the community once per month by donating our time to the assistance of the needy in North Las Vegas at The Bishops Storehouse, a welfare division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My wife and I attend the Las Vegas Nevada temple on a regular basis and find joy serving in the house of the Lord which has become a consistent source of inspiration to us. Our family also participates in the Boy Scouts of America "Cub Scouts" program with our oldest son.
