Hi I'm David

I'm from Idaho, I love basketball and soccer, I'm a future doctor, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being active and playing sports. I've always loved playing basketball and soccer, but recently I've gotten into running and cylcing, and I just finished my first triathlon! I ran my first-ever marathon last year too, and I hope to continue running marathons and completing triathlons. I'm currently an undergraduate student looking to get into medical school next year. Classes are really tough, but the challenge to do well in spite of the difficulty level inspires me to study hard and prepare well. I want to become a radiologist someday and give my time to helping people recover from illness and injury. The road to get there is long, but I know it will be worth it. I love to read. Right now I'm reading the Harry Potter books, and I'm realizing that they're much better than the movies! Haha. I'm also a casual gamer. I like to play video games online with my friends every once in a while, and I'm really stoked for Battlefield 3! Board games are really fun too, and I've been getting into Settlers of Catan a lot recently.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but I've had my doubts about it all. When I was a teenager I struggled at times with the desire to go to church, and I wasn't really sure if I knew it was true. When I was about 16 I decided to read through the Book of Mormon over the course of several months, and when I finished I decided to ask God if it was true. So one night I knelt next to my bed and began speaking with my Father in Heaven. I thought the book was true, and I thought this church was His, but I needed to know for myself. I asked him if the Book of Mormon was true, and I remember feeling a warmth fill my whole body and peace come to my mind. I didn't hear a voice or see a sign, but I felt good. I knew in that moment that it really was true. That was a big moment for me, but my testimony has grown so much since then as I've seen many blessings pour into my life because of my obedience to God's commandments and as I've felt spiritual confirmations many times in church or while reading the Book of Mormon and other scriptures. My life is good, and I'm so happy despite the challenges that arise and the storms of life that come and go. That's because I know who I am, I know God's plan for me, I know this is His church, and I'm trying my best to live right.

How I live my faith

At school I've had the opportunity to move around a lot to different apartments each semester, so I haven't stayed in the same ward for very long. As a result, I've had the chance to participate in many different ways over the last few years since coming to college. I've taught a class at church for future missionaries, I've been a secretary to the bishop, I've helped plan ward activities, and I've visited other members of the ward in their apartments to share messages about the gospel each month. I really enjoy being involved in the ward.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Bible was written by prophets in ancient Israel who spoke with God. In the Old Testament they taught and preached of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World. In the New Testament they taught about Jesus' life and ministry. The Book of Mormon was written by prophets in ancient America. There were many people there too, and God loved them just as much as He loved His children in ancient Israel. So He had prophets there to teach the people about Jesus Christ and His gospel. The Book of Mormon is an additional witness that Jesus is our Savior and Redeemer, and it goes hand in hand with the Bible in teaching us about Him and His plan for us. Show more Show less
