Hi I'm Serene

I live in Denver, am a musician, have birthed 2 babies at home, am a birth doula and childbirth educator. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up Southern UT having home schooled through high school I continued my education and graduated from Dixie State College. I was married in the St. George Temple in 2008 and have two sweet boys, both of which were birthed at home. I am a trained doula through DONA International and an aspiring childbirth educator through BirthWorks International. I am also a musician. I sing and play the violin and have taught music to both teens and children. I grew up dancing and enjoy ballet and contemporary styles. I also enjoy running, motorcycles, hiking, swimming, and just being active.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in an active LDS family and have always known the church is true. At different points in my life my testimony has been stronger and weaker. I would like to think that now I am more established in my faith, having made mistakes and learned from each of them. Each day I try to remember that Heavenly Father can be with me always and all I have to do is allow him to be in my life. Sometimes He's just waiting for an invitation. I know that I am a child of God and he is invested in me and truly does care about what I do in my life. Jesus Christ is my Savior and I pray that I can walk in his footsteps and follow His perfect example of love towards my fellow man.

How I live my faith

Each Sunday my family and I attend church. We love going and seeing everybody in our ward. Our "ward" consists of members in the specific geographic area where we live. Each church member that moves into a certain area is assigned to a ward and meets in a specific building. Within our ward family, I work as a primary teacher to the young 3 and 4 year olds. They are such a joy! I co-teach the class and I learn so much from my fellow teacher, who teaches the young children with love, patience and understanding. During the week, I live my faith by having daily family scripture study. With 2 young children sometimes it is very short but I feel it is important to have that structure early on in my children's life. It helps them feel a sense of stability in our home. As part of our daily scripture study, we have been memorizing specific scripture verses, so that we can better internalize their meaning. We also pray over each meal we eat, breakfast, lunch and dinner. My 2 year old is doing so well in learning how to say prayers. Another way in which I live my faith is by having daily personal scripture study and prayer. This is something I am constantly working on.
