Hi I'm Derek

I'm a husband, a father, a cyclist and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Canada but my parents decided life was too cold north of the equator and so we moved to Australia when I was 8. I come from a big family of 8 (6 kids) and now have a family of my own (not quite as big though). My family is my greatest joy. I have a beautiful wife, a 2yr old daughter and another on the way. I love to cycle and I am always searching for a big mountain to climb.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon isn't just what I chose to do or a lifestyle I live, it's far more than that. It is what defines me. It gives me so much perspective on life, and I really believe it allows me to experience greater joy knowing what this life is really all about. My family brings me more joy than anything else, and so I am grateful for the knowledge I have that my family and I can be together forever. This truth brings me a huge sense of peace and happiness.

How I live my faith

Most of the people that I know know that I am a Mormon. It quickly becomes a conversation point when I don't drink alcohol or coffee at social occasions. I have always found people respectful and surprisingly interested in learning about my beliefs. In my irresponsibility's at church I get to work with the youth. I really enjoy the time I get to spend with them. Their faith and humility are inspiring to me.
