Hi I'm Sydney

I am a mother of 4 and a grandmother of 9. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 4 and a grandmother of 9 2/3 grandchildren. I married my high school sweetheart 42 years ago. We are looking forward to retirement together. I graduated from college with a BA in Elementary education, but never taught. My husband got a degree in Mechanical Engineering and got a great job right out of college, so I was able to stay home with the family and only occasionally have worked outside of the home. I am a singer and have sung as a soloist and in choirs all my life. I am also an avid reader and am always reading 2-4 books at a time.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was not a member of the church, but my father came from a long line of Mormons. His family came across the plains, as Mormon pioneers in a wagon train, and his grandfather was born in a covered wagon. My parents met during WWII, in Alaska, and my father expected my Mother to join the church once the war was over. Unfortunately, that never happened. So, I was raised in a part member family, and as a result never had much of an understanding of the truths of the gospel.. I met my husband when we were in High School and he wasn't a member. When he started talking about getting married, I told him that I wanted to be married in the temple, because I had promised my father that I would. However, I did not have any understanding of the church at that time. He asked what he would have to do to make that happen. I told him that I thought he would need to take some Missionary lessons, get baptized, and after a year we could be sealed in the temple. He said that he could do anything for a year. :) He took the lessons and believed everything he was taught. That is when I realized that I had to get busy and develop my own testimony of the gospel. We were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and have been married for 42 years.

How I live my faith

I am currently the President of our ward's women's organization, of about 150 women. It has been an wonderful opportunity for me to learn and grow. I have had the chance to work with incredible women who are trying to live the gospel of Jesus Christ to the best of their abilities. We have planned and carried out service projects in the community that have served thousands of the needy in our town and the surrounding areas. We study the gospel together, support one another and love each other. We have classes on a wide variety of topics, but all aimed at strengthening our families and homes, increasing our faith, and helping those in need. Over the years I have also been blessed to work in our children's organization and also with the youth. I loved leading the children's singing for many years. I know that I am a better person as a result of my experiences of working and serving in the church and community, and try hard to live and do the best I can.
