Hi I'm Shannon

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, mom, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. I grew up in Michigan and Alaska and went to college and served a mission in Utah. After graduating with a degree in recreational therapy, my husband and I moved back to Alaska where we lived in a remote Eskimo village of just 200 people. That is where our first daughter was born. After two years there, we moved to California, where we have had one more daughter and 3 sons. I spend my days home with my children and love it. My favorite times are when I see them experience new things and overcome challenges. I love the outdoors, miss the snow, love to help others, love to travel with my family. The best things in my life are the simple pleasures like dinner together as a family or the smiles on my childrens' faces as they greet me each morning.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who became members of the church as young adults. I grew up attending church every week- for thirteen years, in an area where we drove 60 miles each way to our meetinghouse. I was baptized when I was 8 years old and to this day remember the feelings I had that day. As a teenager, I went into a booth a local fair, with the banner " Are you going to Heaven?". As they asked me questions and found out I was a Mormon, they began to berate my faith and told me that if I did not change my ways, I would not go to Heaven. During that discussion, I realized that I really needed to be able to stand on my own in my faith. I spent a great deal of time over the next few weeks pondering, studying, and praying about my faith. The peaceful feelings that came confirmed that my faith was true. Throughout my life, I have strived to read the scriptures and pray daily as well as serve those around me. By doing this, I have come to know and love my savior Jesus Christ. It is only through his atonement that we can achieve the potential each person on Earth has been given. I know that we have a loving Heavenly Father who watches over us and communicates with us through personal prayer and through the Holy Ghost. We have a prophet on the Earth today who guides and directs the church. Jesus Christ is our Savior- he atoned for our sins to make it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins and return to live with our Father in Heaven. I know that families can be together forever through the blessings of the temple.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by always looking for opportunities to serve others and share the love that their Father in Heaven has for them. Currently, I am blessed with to serve as the president of the women's organization in our local congregation. With those who serve beside me, we strive to teach each other the gospel as well as how to serve one another and our families. In my home, I strive to live my faith by leading my children with love and kindness, reading scriptures and saying prayers with my husband and children, and being positive. In the community, I live my faith by being involved. I volunteer in my children's school, girl scout troop and sports teams, as well as in community events. This gives me the chance to share my love with others.
