Hi I'm Michael

I grew up in Alaska. Finance is my profession and family is my life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Alaska with natural beauty all around me. I fished, hiked and snowmobiled my way around those mountains and rivers. I moved to the "lower 48" (as we Alaskans call the states) to study finance. I took a break in school to go to Argentina to share my love of Jesus Christ with the people there and picked up a peculiar form of Spanish (el puro Castellano) at the same time. Since coming back, I've finished a Bachelor's and MBA and currently am working for a Fortune 500 company as an analyst. I'm a sports junkie! I love watching all kinds of sports (my current fascination is all things soccer) and my favorites are college football and the NBA (GO SPURS GO!). I have a beautiful family with 4 small children who keep me from getting old and stale as I age. I love to talk all things dealing with ideas, the future, and how to make it better.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and have grown up in it all my life. Many have asked me if I am a member only because of upbringing (kinda like how most peoples political party affiliation in the USA are directly related to the affiliation of their parents). I hit a point when I couldn't continue all the work that it takes to be a Mormon if I didn't know for myself whether it was true or not (lets say the rebellious stage). I am a Mormon because I have studied it out in my mind and asked God to personally reveal to me the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, whether Joseph Smith truly was a prophet called of God just as Moses was in ancient days, and whether or not the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His church on the earth today. I have felt confirmation after confirmation of the truthfulness of these things. Many have asked me how I can claim to know anything about Joseph Smith since I was born 150 years after him. I always respond with a simple question. Does God answer our prayers? If he does, then why can he not reveal to me what I need to know as His child? I believe He hears and answers our prayers, otherwise he would not be a God worth knowing if he does not truly care for us. He does not answer them always in the way I would like, but he does answer them the best way. Every day I read the Book of Mormon and every day it helps me be a better father, husband, employee, and citizen. The principles are those of love, patience, meekness, duty, discipline, and hard work. It condemns all forms of sin and teaches the beautiful doctrines of the Savior. I know that true happiness is found in keeping the commandments of God even when it is hard or unpopular for His blessings are eternal in nature. I am a Mormon because I know it in my heart and have witnessed that the fruit of the church is love. The members are not perfect (I am not perfect), but the church is His church, built to help the imperfect receive Grace and return to Him.

How I live my faith

By doing the best I can. I try to serve wherever I can and find the most joy serving my family. I love to make others laugh and find that it's a great help to others when their stressed or working hard to get through something. Life should be joyful, even when it is hard, so I try to help others that way.
