Hi I'm Mindy

I grew up in a beautiful valley in Idaho. I now teach in urban schools in Tennessee. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love learning and being outside! I enjoy reading both for pleasure and for knowledge. I love camping, hiking, and swimming. I was raised on a small dairy farm where I learned the value of hard work. I love working and creating bonds with those I work with! I have found that the workplace is just like a classroom. There are always lessons to learn! I have been married for about 8 years. We do not have any children yet but are eagerly awaiting the day when we will be blessed with children. I just finished my Master's of Arts in Special Education. I have taught for a little over 3 years in a high-poverty, high-crime area. It is the most difficult work I have ever done in my life! There are days that the work seems too daunting and I have to remember why I am there! I feel like a am a light or beacon in a dark closet.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized shortly after I married my sweetheart at the age of 21. When my husband first introduced me to the Book of Mormon, I remember telling him "I don't have time to read it!" and I knew that was the only way I could find out if it was true. I had witnessed how the Gospel effected his family. They seemed to have this positive attitude and bright spirit with them even in times of trial. I wanted to feel that! I remember at our wedding, I wanted so bad to hear the words "For time and all eternity" instead of "Until death may you part." It was around that time that I realized that if I didn't have time for God, then who or what did I have time for? Not to mention, my life was headed down a path of unwise choices. That is the point in my life where I took a leap of faith and decided to "taste the fruit." I prayed about the Book of Mormon and asked Heavenly Father if this was the best choice for me and my life. I honestly felt that becoming a member of the restored Church of Jesus Christ was the best choice for me and my future family! I had so much to learn! As a new member, I realized that one of my greatest challenges would be in breaking the habits that I had known all my life! It is still a work in progress! I feel that I know more of my Savior and the sacrifices He made for each one of us! I know I have a loving Heavenly Father who cares about me, loves me, and wants to know me on a personal level! I know that I have an eternal companion who loves me and desires to be with me "For time and all eternity." I am so blessed by the knowledge I have of the Gospel and that Heavenly Father provided for me a country where I am free to worship as I please and free to make my own choices!

How I live my faith

Currently, I teach Gospel Principles which is a class for new members or those who are investigating the church. I enjoy pondering the many questions that are asked! It has really helped me to gain further understanding of the Gospel and has strengthened my testimony that this is the true and living church of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I love listening to and learning from the prophet and the apostles. Lds.org has served as a great resource to me in my search for knowledge and truth! I also love how my ward feels like a family! About 4 years ago, my husband and I moved away from our families. It was a very difficult transition for me. I was very attached to my family and I love them dearly. The relationships we have made through church feel as genuine as if the people were our own flesh and blood! I am so thankful to have such a strong support network wherever we decide to go! Visiting teaching has also been a great experience! I love taking the time out of my busy schedule to hang out with other women who I have common experiences and goals. What a great way to get to know other women!
