Hi I'm Dawn

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I’m a blind mother of two. I’ve recently started college full time, and begun learning to play finger style guitar. I have a wonderful guide dog and enjoy knitting, reading and Playing table top RPGs with my husband and friends. I’m a big sci-fi fan and a couple of my favorite authors are also LDS. I love spending time with my family and friends, as well as sailing and talking to friends online.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized on August 15th 2009 along with my son. I was raised in a loosely christian family, who occasionally attended nondenominational church services. I started exploring different religions and spiritual paths as a teenager. Originally it lead me away from Christianity. For about a decade or so I considered myself a pagan. Slowly though, my reading, meditation and prayers started bringing me closer back to Christ again. For a few years I tried resisting and yet I found my beliefs changing, and Heavenly Father slowly leading me back. In December of 2008 I finally stopped fighting the fact that I had christian beliefs. In January of 2009 I was still meditating and praying to find out if there was a particular branch or christian belief system that Heavenly Father wanted me to follow. Trying to find where I fit, one night I had thoughts of those in my life that I new, either as long time friends, or passing acquaintances who belonged to the LDS church. As a result I went to the Mormon.org website and begun investigating the basic beliefs, then decided to read the Book or Mormon and decide for myself. While reading I would pray and pay attention to my feelings. In this way I had many passages brought to my attention. After I finished reading the Book of Mormon, I clicked on the “Contact a Missionary” link. It was a couple of weeks later that they first came to teach my children and I our first lesson and I realized that the passages that had been brought to my attention were the same ones which the Missionaries were using in their lessons with us. That only served to emphasize to me that this was the True Church and that this was where Heavenly Father was leading me to all along. Personal revelation has always been a part of my life as has prayer, study, and meditation. These are all things that led me here, and that still guide me to this day and practices that are encouraged and strengthen my testimony.

How I live my faith

As a mother who’s husband doesn’t belong to the church I lead the family in prayer, and gospel study. We attend church every Sunday and the kids participate in church activities for their age groups as I do with other women of the church.
