Hi I'm Tommy

I am a student, a husband, a soon-to-be dad, an Alabama football fanatic, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Alabama. I am the fifth child of my parent's eight children. I went to college for a year before I went on my mission to East Africa. I served in Uganda for 10 months and in Ethiopia for 14 months. I loved the time that I spent there and I miss it very much. After returning home from my mission I returned to my schooling. I recently married my sweet wife and we are very excited about the future family that we will have together. I want nothing more than to be a good man, son, brother, husband and father.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because throughout my life I have prayed to my Heavenly Father to know if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church. And as I have done so I have also read, studied, learned and lived the teachings of the Church and it's leaders. As I have done so I have felt the joy and peace that comes with a confirmation of truth from God. The happiest times of my life are the times when I am living the closest to the church and it's teachings. I am a member because I have received confirmation in my mind and heart that it is true and I want those blessings in the future for myself and my family. Now that I know that it is true, I can still receive confirmation that this church is true as I continue to live the Gospel as taught by the living Prophet and Apostles and I pray to God for greater knowledge. I know that it is true. And so I follow what I know.

How I live my faith

As a member of the church and a child of God I have my own responsibility to learn and grow in faith and to influence others to do the same. I love how the church leaders teach us to have our own personal scripture study and prayer so that we can learn to receive answers from God concerning our personal issues. I love how encouraged we are to make the Gospel an everyday part of our lives. I enjoy living around so many people who have the same beliefs that I do. I love how much responsibility is placed on each of us as we search for the truth. We all must feel the Spirit and gain our own testimony for ourselves. I appreciate the responsibility we have to reach out to others and teach the Gospel but also to lift those who need help and to take care of each other. It is by respecting the opportunities, encouragements and responsibilities that I live my faith. I love the Gospel. This church is truth. I know it and so can anyone else who wants to know.

What is faith?

Faith is believing in something that is right and true even though you have no physical evidence. It is a personal belief inside of you. I cannot give anyone else faith. I can help them to gain faith by telling them what I have done to gain my own faith. It is believing without seeing. I don't need evidence and no amount of evidence in opposition can change my mind. I feel that is more powerful than physical evidence. I don't need to see Christ to know that He lives and is real. The 5 senses that we have allow us to understand things that are physical. Faith allows us to understand things that are spiritual first, and one day we will understand them physically as well. Faith is not a way of defending something that I cannot prove. It is too personal for that. I have no desire to prove to anyone what I believe. I know the happiness that faith has brought me and I seek to share that with others. Show more Show less
