Hi I'm Mary

I'm a wife, a mother and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of 7 kids. I have 3 brothers, 2 sisters and a half sister. I met my husband in 2004 and we were married in 2008. We have two beautiful kids, a boy and a girl. I am an avid reader. I love classic literature, but I am also a fan of sci-fi and young adult literature. I enjoy cooking and baking. I frequently experiment and make my own recipes. I graduated from Columbine High School. In college I studied English Literature. Now I have the privilege to be a stay at home mom and it brings me so much joy. I love spending the day with my kids and watching them grow. It is my best job ever.

Why I am a Mormon

The easy answer to Why I'm a Mormon is that I was born and raised in the Church, but there is so much more to it. For every person there comes a time when you have to stop depending on your parents beliefs and you have to figure your beliefs out on your own. For me this time began in high school and into my twenties. On April 20, 1999 my world was changed forever. Two students at my high school murdered 13 people. People I knew and cared about. My world was shaken. How could something like that happen? I was devastated by the loss of my friends. A few years later another change rocked my world. My parents divorced. My faith was challenged. I turned to God in prayer and by reading my scriptures. I found comfort and peace. I gained a greater knowledge of Jesus Christ and of the truthfulness of the Gospel. I was attending Brigham Young University at the time and I was invited by a friend to attend a concert for his choir. It was a Finnish choir and they sang the hymn "Be Still My Soul." Although they were singing in another language, I could understand what they were singing. I felt a wave of peace wash through me. I knew I would be okay. I gained a greater testimony that I have a loving Heavenly Father who cares about me and who is always there for me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday. Not only do I read my scriptures and pray daily, but I teach my children about Jesus Christ. I read scripture stories to my son and daughter. My husband and I are teaching them about prayer and other important gospel principles such as reverence and charity. Every Monday evening we have Family Home Evening. We pray, sing songs, have a lesson and then we enjoy a treat that I have made with the kids earlier in the day. It is my favorite night of the week.
