Hi I'm Brock Avery

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm a native Coloradan who loves to play guitar and cruise around on my skateboard. I study Manufacturing Engineering at BYU and plan to minor in business. I have two older sisters and a younger brother, along with two awesome parents. I tend to keep to myself much of time because I love moments when I can just be quiet and think about how my life is going. However, I feel like a social life is crucial to our daily happiness so I like to spend time being with my friends.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents tried to raise me to the best of their abilities. I rebelled when I was younger, but chose to serve a mission when I was 16. I served at age 20. Missionary service changed my life. I am Mormon because I want to be with my family forever. I want to continue to learn about Him and His Son Jesus Christ throughout life and even after I die. We can't possibly learn everything in this life, but we can have the opportunity to continue to learn for a long time even after we die. I love that doctrine. I'm Mormon because I love the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You can learn about them on this website, just click on one of the links at the top of the page.

How I live my faith

I feel like there really is no point in having faith in something unless you live it. Faith is descriptive of who you are. A king named Benjamin in the Book of Mormon said after teaching about keeping God's commandments that, " if ye believe all these things, see that ye do them. " God has answered my prayers in the past, so I keep praying. I know He lives, so I try to be like Him.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Brock Avery
We do not worship Joseph Smith, but we are grateful that he was able to faithfully fulfill his calling as the prophet of the restoration of the church. We worship God the Eternal Father and Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith was called because he was prepared. He was a great man and great leader as he followed Jesus Christ. He was just and ordinary man put into an extraodinary calling. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Brock Avery
Missionaries share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They will share with you how to become happier, how to strengthen your family, how to get to heaven and many other things that deal with your personal salvation. They will testify of Jesus Christ being the son of God and they will testify of prophets, especially Joseph Smith ( not to put him above any other prophet) but more to show that he was the man chosen to restore the true church. They'll tell you of how we have a prophet again on the earth and he is lead by Christ in knowing how to help each of us with the various challenges life throws at us. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Brock Avery
The easiest wasy to increase faith is by obedience to the Gospel. If you want to know if a gospel principle is true then you only need to start living it. If it brings promised blessings then wouldn't this increase your faith? Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Brock Avery
The Bible is God's word given to the people of ancient Israel. Since we know that these were not the only children of God upon the earth, He must have spoken also to others who lived elsewhere. We know from the Bible that God speaks to us through prophets. The Bible and Book of Mormon are given to us from God through Holy Prophets and together these give us a stronger foundation in our witness that redemption through Jesus Christ is a reality.
