Hi I'm Nathanael

I live in Queensland, Australia and I am a sports mad father of five. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love participating in sports. We have a great climate here in Australia that allows us to lead really active lives and spend lots of time outdoors. My favorite sports are basketball, soccer, tennis, wakeboarding and snowboarding (I wish I lived closer to the snow!). I also enjoy coaching and have coached the same boys basketball team for the past 6 years and really enjoy the association with the players and parents. My beautiful wife and I have been married for 17 years and we have many similar interests and love spending time together. We also go on many family outings with our 5 kids like camping, fishing, sports and other outdoor activities. Sometimes it's just great to spend time in the backyard with the kids kicking a footy around or throwing the frisbee.

Why I am a Mormon

Basically, I'm a Mormon because it makes me and my family happy. Of course when I was younger I had to decide if being a member of this Church was the right thing to do and that decision included study, prayer and lots of thinking. I'm glad that Heavenly Father answered my prayers and I am so thankful to be a member of this Church. Although being a Mormon is hard at times, there are so many good things that have come into my life as a result. My family has been very blessed as we have tried to follow the Saviour's example. I am really grateful for the knowledge of where we come from, what this life is all about, and what happens when we die. All these questions are answered through the gospel of Jesus Christ. It makes such a huge difference when you know that there is a purpose for our lives here on Earth and that we can all make a difference by helping and serving others. I know that with the help of Jesus Christ I can become a better person and closer to our Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

Over the last 15 years I have had the opportunity to work closely with the teenagers at Church. Although sometimes challenging, this has been a very rewarding experience and I have enjoyed it immensely. It is a privilege to watch the youth grow, develop and mature as they participate in Church activities and learn about the gospel and about life. In conjunction with parents, the Church takes a very active role in developing life skills and leadership skills with young people. We plan and organize events and activites such as conferences, weekly youth activity nights, dances, sports events, scripture classes and Sunday night youth meetings. Now that my own children are teenagers I can see the difference that these activities make in their life, and I am really grateful for everything the Church does to help support parents in this day and age. At home, we try to provide a place where our kids (and their friends!) can feel comfortable, safe, have lots of fun and also learn about what it means to follow Jesus Christ. We read the scriptures and pray together and also set aside specific times to spend time together as a family.
